Orienteering (Long Distance Champs) 1:41:45 [3]
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D

Had my compass with me today and beat Tooms to number 2! But the wheels feel of after that. I kept missing controls and losing myself on the map, almost infuriating me at one point. I knew where I was, moved for 30s and then lost. :-/ 6 controls > 10minutes!

Some very frustrating times out there but one big positive was that my running fitness has improved as I managed a jog when the ground was decent ...

p.s. rolled my right ankle countless times. I even laughed when it happened for the 7th time. Might have something to do with the extra tilt on the right orthosis.

... and even managed a sprint against a fellow competitor to the finish control. Even though I knew he was a multiple of 2min in front or behind me but not on the same time, I sprinted anyway. I really opened up, taking big strides balancing my effort so that I would make it to the end without popping. Not a bad time too!

Orienteering race 1:32:01 intensity: (10:09 @0) + (22:56 @1) + (28:56 @2) + (19:09 @3) + (10:51 @4) 7.18 km (12:49 / km)

No confidence on number 1 meant I turned back early before I had got to it and I was on track too as Tooms passed me going the other (proper) way!

Ground was hard to run on. I'd forgotten my compass and made a conscious decision not to borrow one so that I used the features more. It worked, in that I used the features more but it was hard to keep contact on the long legs. It was on the long legs that I had complete time blowouts too.

Feet really hurt at the end due to the rocks. I have never seen so many roc... hang on, no, there were more in Karratha but only by a fraction.

Roadie (Commute) 55:05 [3] 24.31 km (26.5 kph)
ahr:146 max:181 shoes: Giant TCR C1

Didn't do the morning ski session, just too tired. See a pattern?
The ride into work wasn't very exciting either until I saw other roadies. I started to work towards the end and was reminded again of my weird body warm up routine.

Until I'm warm, I feel like I have no energy. Then, I try, I hurt quite a bit and then everything becomes easier!

What a hard commute. The wind was rather fresh along the freeway bike path and I was heading to Hillarys, the place the seemed to be the source of the wind.

At the Hutton st bridge (badly in need of an underpass) I caught sight of my next roadie target. The other 4 I had dispatched earlier didn't take long to reel in so I figured that I'd be past him by Stirling. I did see him going up the arch like bridge over the freeway but he was still a fair bit ahead. I caught sight of him going up the hill towards the Karinyup rd bridge only to be stopped by the traffic lights.

Another big push and no sight of him. Maybe I'll see him going up the back rd in Balcatta. Yep, long straight rd and he is up in the distance. Dispatch a few more commuters and up the hill towards Reid Highway. This hill is great, it slowly increases gradient and just when you think it is going down hill, you round a bend, float downhill for maybe 20m and then back into a climb again - beautifully orchestrated.

No sign of my target bow though. I overcooked it on the hill and was hurting. I grabbed a shot and still had to work to tried to make my 6pm deadline. Funny thing was, when I got onto Hepburn, my target appeared off in the distance. Right, I had to get him now before my journey ended. I pushed real hard up the hill, into the wind, rain and pain. I was closing but slowly and he knew it too, the occasional glance over the shoulder revealing his intentions. All I had to do was keep up the pain and the gap would close.

Finally, before the Marmion lights I passed him and kept him there, while I was in a world of pain, very satisfying pain though :-) Burned 672 calories too!

Hiking (Karratha Hike) 1:24:00 [1] 3.0 km (28:00 / km) +92m 24:17 / km
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D

I was too tired again for a run due to this morning's rush for the plane and 3am wake up time. So while I was in Karratha/ Dampier/ Burrup I went for a walk along a so called trail showing several examples of aboriginal rock painting.

It was along very rocky and hilly ground. I thought it would make for a great rogaine map with many similar features and heaps of contours. With all the rocks though, I suspect that half the field would injure their ankles. Seriously, there were only a few places where the large rocks were filled in with smaller rocks and soil.

It would be a funny orienteering map though. Being so close to the shore combined with tides that go out a few k's, tRicky might not realise he is off that map until he is 2km out to sea!

Roadie (Commute) 1:04:36 [1] 24.43 km (22.7 kph)
ahr:122 max:177 shoes: Giant TCR C1

Tired today and general CBA. I didn't actually warm up until Leederville. Maybe I am saving myself for the sprint to training this afternoon?

Roadie (Commute) 56:00 [2] 22.44 km (24.0 kph)
shoes: Giant TCR C1

And a slow ride back too.

Paddling (Intervals) 37:00 [3] 5.72 km (9.3 kph)
shoes: Custom Kayaks Mentor

The slow ride meant I was a bit late for the session so I missed out on 2 reps. Just as well. I was still feeling tired and achy and despite a big effort during the 5min intervals, I couldn't help but fade badly towards the end of each.
