So sorry Dolf and Liz!
The new healthy (non-drinking) Martin had some guests the night before over for a movie. We watched and chatted for ages, it was quiet and also quite pleasant actually, so pleasant that we only realised it was time to go at 1:30am! I'd had a measly 1 and 1/2 glasses of wine and felt fine. Couldn't get to sleep though so I packed the car with my gear & bike.
Then, trying to get to sleep, I realised my alarm wasn't set. So I set it, or at least tried to, but the 'haze' meant I didn't press the enable button so that the alarm actually went off. That was my back up alarm too, so why didn't my main alarm sound? Well, it ran out of battery over night :-(
Luckily, I had my clothes ready and the car packed so as soon as I woke up and called Dolf, I hot footed it to PBGS. At least I had an excuse to floor it up Welshpool rd. You wouldn't believe it, but the Jellybean turned itself inside out and managed 90kph (in sections) up that hill :-)
Great fun ride at an easy pace. That was until Liz and Dolf took the lead and it got a bit more hectic.
Despite no breaky, not enough water and not enough sleep, I felt great out there and really enjoyed showing the two the trails and giving them some tips too. Good times :-)
Easy group ride with a mate from work. He rides once or twice a week and has just started riding only a few months ago. Nevertheless, he certainly had the legs to drop the others in the group.
Given the low speed, I thought this ride wouldn't be much fun but I was wrong. We had a nice and assertive group leader with about 10 in the group. Everybody took their turn at the front, the group worked well and I managed to get to know some of the guys. I actually really enjoyed the pace too.
My goal was to take it just a touch less easily than the other rides I did this week. I wanted a slight increase in intensity to remind the body what it's in for next week. With the group working together, I managed that with the occasional effort on the front and then a nice relaxing rest for the remainder.
There was one sprint point and this is where my mate impressed me heaps. 2 guys upped the pace on Riverside Drive. I joined them and so did Alex (my mate from work). I took the front and somehow managed 40+, alternating with another guy. Alex hung on and was there at the finish right on my wheel. We both turned around to see why there hadn't been any attacks and saw no one! We rode the group off our wheels :-) Alex was pretty chuffed which was great to see.

Great idea from Wally with this DIY boat demo day. Good to catch up with the various AR crew too.
I loved the V10 and managed 13kph in a sprint in it. Didn't feel tippy at all which is reassuring. The PRS was also nice to paddle and seemed a lot better put together than the Finn. Funnily enough, no one wanted to try my boat out for a second time....
Without realising I was doing so, I've been changing where I start and stop the garmin to get better average speed figures......
Well, it might look nice to have a higher avg, but it isn't going to be any good for comparisons though, is it? And it is just plain silly too!
So, I've chosen start and stop locations for my rides that I'm not going to change and that are far enough away from my door for people not to be able to work out where it is that I live.
Another cruise into work - a lovely way to ride actually rather than hammering it all the way. However, I did get a bit bored so, as several other commuters crowded around the lights to go up Milligan street, I gave it the beans up the hill. Pleasantly surprised! Managed 30kph somehow and now looking forward even more to next week :-)

For the first time ever in 2 years on AP, I have found a legitimate and helpful use for all this data!
I was a bit disappointed with this run. I really wanted to keep the HR below 80% and continue the recovery, ready for a strong effort next week. I was also disappointed at how slow I was despite the HR.
Then I checked the figures from my recent run sessions and it seemed to make a lot more sense. My LSD run 4 weeks ago had a slightly faster pace with a slight higher HR. Also, my recovery run last week had a slower pace with a lower HR. So..... after all my negative thoughts out on the run, it turns out that my perception had skewed my memories and there was nothing to worry about :-) Phew!

Slowed down on the way home and kept the HR where it should have been. The pace is slow, real slow, but it's still amazing for me to be able to actually run without my HR going nuts. I'll see how the legs feel Thursday night before deciding if I should go running Friday.
However, this easy week I've had with light rides and runs has worked wonders for the motivation. I'm really keen to do some harder sessions next week.
Yay! Seem to do better in the afternoons. Enjoyable ride home via South Perth keeping the pace up and the HR down. Got a headwind from the Narrows all the way home but didn't care :-)
Yes! Yes! The TdF is over!
I am so happy that it's over.
Finally, sleep and a good mood await my imminent return.
Might even get up early tomorrow for the group ride. If I do, however, I will be going easy as I'm still not feeling 100%.
Should be good for the weekend though, fingers crossed.
