Note
(sick)

Well, I've been having an interesting week.

After feeling weird and headachy last Monday and Tuesday, I stayed home from work on Wednesday and Thursday due to alternating chills and sweating. Friday started out better, but then I got abdominal pain and a headache bad enough that I had Nancy bring me to urgent care in the evening. At this point, everybody was thinking flu. They talked to me for a couple of minutes before sending me to the ER. Some blood work and IV fluids and they sent me home. Woke up early Saturday, totally dehydrated, drank a bunch of water, and Nancy took me back to the ER midday. More serious testing ensued, and late that night I got to ride in an ambulance to the hospital in Worcester.

Been here for close to three days now, I think. In all, I've had chest x-rays twice, two CAT scans, one ultrasound, and I'm scheduled for an MRI in a couple of hours. And I've been stuck with way more needles than I ever hoped to be.

No real diagnosis at this point, but the two major symptoms I wasn't able to observe are 1) blood in my abdomen, particularly around my spleen, and 2) reduced liver function. The former is speculated to be due to some unnoticed trauma, and they're looking into tick-borne diseases for the latter. The bleeding has stopped, so that's good, and the other things like blood counts are returning to normal. After some rough stretches, my discomfort level is now down to very low levels and they're letting me eat again. I'm in a pretty spiffy private room, and I went for a couple of walks around the floor today. My brother came down from Vermont for a couple of days, and he and Nancy have been taking good care of me.

I'll post more when I learn more.
