orienteering (mapping) 5:21:00 [1] ***
shoes: GoLite SunDragon

Making the (minimal) updates on Fox Forest in preparation for the meet coming up in two weeks. Almost entirely vegetation changes due to logging, which is some nasty work to have to be doing. Old clearcuts grown up as fight, new thinned areas with lots of slash on the ground. Gah, I'm beat! To think that 18 years ago I was doing this all day long, sleeping in an unheated cabin, eating cold oatmeal for breakfast, and doing it all over again, day after day. My hat is off to Swampfox and Dominie and other people who have what it takes to keep at this. There was a time when I felt that if I had lots of free time, I'd like to spend it making some nice orienteering maps. Screw that. If I had lots of time, I'd go flying. Of course, if I had spent 5+ hours hanging in a harness, that would have left me pretty tired, too.
