running (pavement) 1:43:20 [3] 9.38 mi (11:01 / mi) +348m 9:53 / mi
shoes: Nike Initiator

Pearl Hill St. loop. Warm afternoon (~50F) and I didn't want to deal with the slush in the woods, so this seemed like the activity that would best leave me dry and unmuddy, but it's a lot of pavement running for me. I did intentionally pick a fairly hilly route. I've been out this way on a bike before, but never on foot that I can recall. I also had never been out there with the leaves down, so I had no idea that Pearl Hill St. is flanked by massive cliffs on the west side. Spring is definitely here, the maple trees are all festooned with buckets. Typical aches and pains from running on pavement, we'll see if I'm left with sore leg muscles (doesn't seem too bad right now). I was figuring that this might take about 100 minutes, and I wasn't that far off.

Note

Snow dealings, round 21 (and the last for this year, I hope): excavating my mailbox. When I picked up my mail at the post office this morning, I told them to resume delivery, so I had to do it. There's still a serious glacier out there, but I was able to chop away enough of it that I think the letter carrier can reach the mailbox (which I remounted on the post). Tommorrow's forecast is for warm rain, so I'm hoping that chews away at what's left.

Note

Snow dealings, round 19: clearing my driveway. The glop we got a couple of days ago froze solid before I could get to it, but today's 7" or so was fluffy, and I was able to snowblow it fairly easily (and the snowblower rope-started from cold today). Afterwards I tried chipping away some of the underlying ice layer with a steel shovel, but that wasn't entertaining for very long, so there's not much black showing on the driveway. About 35 minutes.

Note

Snow dealings, round 20: Nancy's driveway. I did part of this in the morning, and intended to do the rest while Nancy was watching the Oscars, but was too lazy to get up off the couch until they announced the final award, at which point I decided that I had better get the rest of the snow out of there before the impending freezing rain turns it to concrete. She thought I was crazy to be going out to shovel at 11:30 PM, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Now it will just turn to sheer ice instead. About 30 minutes.
