running (trails) 1:31:50 [3] 13.82 km (6:39 / km) +53m 6:31 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 350

I'd been meaning to check this place out for a while, since it's pretty close to home, and I drive by the little parking area once in a while. Trails were mostly snowy, some ice, some bare ground, and near the turnaround I went through a stretch where I was breaking through the frost heaves with annoying frequency. Pleasant enough place for a run, though it's kind of just a flat plateau above a floodplain, so not very interesting from an orienteering perspective. There's more terrain south of the river, which I might check out at some point.

pedaling (bicycle rollers) 30:37 [2]

Propped the front of the rollers up on a couple of boards, which made things easier on my hands. Unlike on a treadmill, this does not simulate going uphill. Got back into the reflexes for this, to the extent that I was able to look forward rather than concentrating my gaze on the front wheel and roller contact patch. Started to drift pretty close to the edge a few times, but successfully recovered without having to grab the wall. I started in a low gear, thinking that might make the control easier, but ended up shifting higher, which seemed to help smooth things out a bit.

Note

Wasn't sure I'd feel well enough to go to work, and thought I'd maybe have to cut the day short if I did, but I ended up going in early and staying late.

Note
(sick)

Originally planned on going for a modest run, but the weathher was pretty cold, and I was feeling under it. So I decided to ride the bike rollers, but kept putting it off and essentially spent the entire day in bed. This illness is behaving like a cold on an accelerated schedule, and I'm optimistic that I'll get through it in a single day and be okay tomorrow. It's not that horrible, but I've been a little sneezy and have had a pretty bad headache that has persisted all day despite my taking my usual analgesics twice and slathering an unprecedented amount of tiger balm onto my face.
