Willard Brook SE, In The Dark, small snowshoes. I had intended to go out much earlier, but I got caught up in doing a bunch of stuff around the house, so by the time I got out there it was getting close to 11 PM. Totally untracked, so I was breaking trail the whole way, sinking in about 6" with every step, a killer stairclimber workout. I had a loop in mind if the trail had already been packed down, but when I got to the "Friends Trail" (aka Old City Road) and that was also unbroken snow, I just turned around, because I was gfeeling about half-cooked by that point. On the way, I spotted a line of reflective thumbtacks heading off into the woods that I had never seen before (not even on the way out tonight, maybe they're angled such that they were more visible on the way back), so I checked it out. They got more and more spaced out, and I turned back when I couldn't spot any more. The return trip was just as much work as the first part, because I don't take Wagon steps even with snowshoes, and retracing my steps, I was actually stepping into the spaces between the footprints, so I was compressing snow again and leaving an almost continuous path, such that someone with skis could use.
