exercises 10 [5]

10 ring pullups.

The auction people are coming Thursday to take most of the remaining stuff from Mom's house. I was pleased to learn that they'll take the Nazi memorabilia that Dad brought back at the end of the war, because we didn't know what to do with it. We decided that we might as well let Dad's WWII army uniform go to a collector as well, because neither of us has any use for it (we're keeping his decorations, of course). But as relates to physical training, I guess I decided to have them also take Dad's barbell set. It's unlikely that I'd decide to work out with free weights at home (I did a tiny bit when I was in high school, to no particular effect), and maybe they'd be of interest to a collector, since I have the original box and instructions.

1 PM

paddling (kayak) 11:36 [1] 1.19 km (9:47 / km) +9m 9:25 / km

From Peru boat launch to Valcour Island with Nancy, orange boat. Tailwind made it pretty easy.

hiking 8:15 [1] 0.61 km (13:37 / km) +17m 11:57 / km
shoes: Saucony Guide 8 Powergrid

From where we landed the boats up to the lighthouse (Bluff Point Light).

hiking 1:55:57 [1] 7.19 km (16:07 / km) +45m 15:38 / km
shoes: Saucony Guide 8 Powergrid

Strolling around the north end of Valcour Island. The early stretch took a little attention to avoid the poison ivy, but most of this was on a trail through surprisingly reasonable woods.

paddling (kayak) 17:13 [2] 1.35 km (12:45 / km)

And back to Peru, a little more excitement due to a headwind, but not nearly as much as if we'd returned earlier.
7 PM

hiking 10:53 [1] 0.79 km (13:48 / km) +3m 13:30 / km

Started the watch late and stopped it late, too, but the time and distance are probably about right. From the Private Driveway sign down to where we could get a good vire of Cumberland Head Light and back.

exercises 1 [5]
(injured)

One pullup, on an overhead plank in the boathouse that I had to jump up a fair distance to, and that I could only get my fingers on to the second knuckle. Started from an absolute dead hang. Much harder than what I've been doing on the rings, but I was pleased that I could manage it.

pedaling (road bike) 59:49 [3] 21.7 km (2:45 / km) +372m 2:32 / km
(injured)

Different loop, some climbs and some fast gentle downhills. Not sure if I've been on Pearl Hill Road on a bike before, though I know I've run there, and my memory was that the pavement was awful, and that was accurate. But bad pavement isn't so bad if you're going uphill, or on the flat at the top, or even if it's bad the whole way down. What sucks is when it's nice on the way down and then turns awful when you're going fast, and that didn't happen here.
