Stratton, with Nancy. I recall skiing here once about 43 years ago, but I don't know if I had been back since. That previous trip had been the first time I'd ever ridden a chairlift, and I remembered the first trail that I did back then (and wiped out), so that's what we started with today. I didn't look familiar in the slightest. Five runs, because we didn't leave my house until 11 AM, which was okay because the mountain was closed for a while earlier in the day due to high winds. Still pretty breezy while we were skiing, but a lot warmer than it's been on recent weekends.

Note

Snow dealings, round 5a: Nancy's driveway. Weird snow: there was at least a couple of inches of fluffy stuff this morning, then it appeared to be snowing lightly all day, and by evening there was less snow and it was wet and sticky. There must have been drizzle mixed in with the snow or something. Anyway, the electric snowblower ate this stuff right up, even the plow snow (there wasn't so much of that), and I never needed to touch a shovel.

Note

Snow dealings, round 5b: my driveway. Easy blowing, did the whole thing. Accumulated depth here was four inches.

Note

Showed up at Okemo with Nancy, and sent her out to ski. Based on what I had seen yesterday, I didn't really believe that they could groom things into acceptable shape. After a while, she texted that the skiing was "passable, kind of", so despite the fact that the lift ticket would have been free, I was fine with my decision to hang out in the lodge with a book.

Note

Downhill skiers are total slobs. These days, in addition to all of the empty cups and napkins and half-eaten food that they can't be bothered to throw in the trash, at the end of the day the lodge is littered with many hundreds of used hand warmer packets. I gathered up a pile of them that were still active from the nearby tables and have a little campfire going here.
