exercises 1:15 [5]

50 situps, 25 pushups. Travel day to Colorado for a week of skiing. Ran into Desmond and Caroline Fleming in the airport, they were on the same plane as us, heading out to spend a couple of days with daughter Ceire, who is now a ski instructor at Breckenridge.

Note

Another miss. It was a very late night, with bad weather, though by the time I was driving back it was just windy. I guess I could have done pushups or something while I was hanging around in the casino, but I didn't. However, I did finally fulfill a promise that I made to this man 34 years ago.

Sunday River, with Nancy, six runs. Snowing pretty hard all day, conditions were a couple of inches of loose powder on top of an ice base. Not too bad except on a few steep spots. Temperature in the 20s, I think, so fairly comfortable, though visibility was restricted (no views). Today was a tour of the western parts that hadn't been open on the previous days. We stuck together except for one ill-advised excursion that I made through the woods on the lower part of Blind Ambition, which was pretty thin and I had to wander a bit to find a way cown when I found myself stuck behind an area of stumps and sticks. I also managed to gouge the bottom of one of my skis when I was on the side of a trail on what proved to be thin new cover over some rocks. There was some pretty flat traversing in here, on Kansas and Cowardly Lion. Not much was open in the Oz area, and the top of the Oz lift was the site of a mishap, as they had the exit ramp set up poory, and the chair came around and smacked Nancy, sending her to the ground.

After a snack, five more runs, completing our tour of hitting every lift this weekend. There actually are five downhill sections in here, despite the fact that one of the lift rides (Jordan Mountain Double) ends up lower than it starts in the direction that we rode it. Stayed together except for one run, where I did Quantum Leap and Nancy did an easier trail. Started sleeting at one point, and at the end we were both having trouble seeing out of our goggles. Conditions were quite a contrast to two weeks ago when everyting was moguls: this weekend, we only started find a few bumps at the very end.
