exercises (planking) 3:00 [3]

Forearm plank, seems to be popular right now, so I figured I'd see what it's all about. Nancy thinks it's passe, like saying that you're going to Jazzercise.

I had originally planned to go flying, but what I was seeing in the forecast didn't make me think there would be much in the way of lift, so instead I did a bunch of chores around the house, and after that, there's more than one way to enjoy the outdoors on a beautiful day. Temperature 70+ F, solid blue sky. A long grind up to just across the border in Mason so that I could come screaming back down Rte. 124 (looks like I got to only a bit above 39 mph).

Sessions Woods, Red, 5.9 km, 5th. Mostly good. Headed off on the wrong trail from the start, but realized it pretty early and was able to correct without much damage. More unfortunate was that I realized on that leg that I had forgotten to change my glasses, and was wearing a pair that are decidedly less favorable for this activity, but I kept them on. Very small error on #5 when I ran past a boulder in a hemlock patch that I thought I knew where it was, and noticed a control in there, and headed off toward where I thought my control should be. Except I hit a stream just past it, and that didn't seem right. Oh, because that's actually my control! Very little time lost. The big oops was on #12, when I failed to look at my compass after getting through the green and drifted way left all the way to the dirt road, probably lost at least three minutes there. And on the last control, I initially went to the rocks on the SE edge of the circle. Either of the two small mistakes would probably account for the half minute that Laszlo was ahead of me by.

Lovely day, very nice course.

Nobscot, Long ScoreO, 5th. Control sequence 13-7-16-17-8-6-9-10-15-11-14-12-3-2-5. A little better planning and execution should have allowed enough time to get all 17 controls, but instead I missed #1 and #4, for 410 out of 440 points, if I counted correctly. I should have gone from #13 to #1, but instead I went for #16, screwed it up (didn't check my compass when I hit a stone wall), and ended up at #7. The biggest mistake was in leaving #16, where I thought I'd try to hit a narrow corridor of medium green through the dark green to get to a trail. Too hard to do that in the dark, and the dark green was in fact impenetrable. I was only 5 meters from the trail at one point and 10 meters at another point, but I couldn't get through the tangle of thorns. Ended up wasting five minutes. The rest went mostly okay, with a few places where the dark caused inefficiencies (most of the controls from #15 though #3), and just ran out of time at the end, barely squeezing in the last few and finishing with seconds to spare.

Nice night, good course, and the map is in fine shape these days. HR data looks dubious for the first 13 minutes.

A few streets in Leominster with Nancy in the middle of the day. Feeling moderately rotten from the shingles and covid shots last night (didn't sleep well due to two sore shoulders), but it's such a beautiful day that it would have been a shame not to get out. All I could do to keep up with her, though.

Around the neighborhood, In The Dark. And fog. Nice warm night.

Two shots tonight, Shingrix in my right arm and bivalent Pfizer covid in the left. My previous four covid shots were Moderna, so I decided to mix it up a little. Right arm is already pretty sore (the nurse asked if I'm right or left handed, and recommended the Shingrix in my good arm, so that's not working out so great).
