Double Oak Lake, Red, 6.4 km, 260 m, 1st. Sometimes it's fun to be the pros from out of town. The course was mostly on the Yellow/Green side, but the map and terrain were the excellent stuff one expects from Oak Mountain. Only one significant oops, when I stopped too short at some unmapped rootstocks, then climbed higher to get a better view and spotted a control behind me. I knew it was wrong, but sometimes controls get misplaced, so I checked it. Nope, not even from this club, a permanent AR control or something. Once we were around the lake, there were some quite nice legs.

Not a date that I was missing, but this was a new state for Nancy, who totally dominated on Green despite her misgivings about the length and the 1:10000 scale.

A short walk on the beach with Nancy, In The (very) Dim. Okay, maybe dark.

Pensacola Beach has a lot in common with New Shoreham:
1) It's on an island.
That's about it.

Note

Walking around the MLK NHS with Nancy for a while, but i didn't turn on my watch. Getting the rental car was kind of a disaster, but hopefully like last summer's trip to Sweden, once we're past the airplane, first night hotel, and rental car fiasci, the rest of the trip will be great.

(rest day)

Early meeting today, and then travel. I was planning to go out for a walk, but the timing didn't work out.

Note

They were offering $1000 for people to not take that flight. Man, in retrospect that was even better than it sounded. Should have taken the money.

WBSE, north half of the challenge loop CW, In The Dim. Short sleeves weather. Not as bad as the southern half in terms of fallen branches, but it still had its moments. When the afternoons get a little longer I'll go out and do this with a pair of work gloves, a bow saw, and loppers, and see if I can clear it out, if the MTB crowd doesn't get to it first. Got around without quite having to turn on my flashlight.

Saw the Starlink satellites again tonight, this time knowing what they were and when to expect thm.

Just down to the lake and back, In The Dark. There is still ice in the western cove, but it seems pretty nearly impossible that there will be any I'd be willing to venture out onto this season anywhere around here. The iceboat crowd is pretty bummed.

I got home from work tonight and went out to the mailbox, and on my way back to the house, I saw one of the most startling phenomena I've ever witnessed in the sky. Turned out to be the Starlink satellites that were launched on Sunday, and they're supposed to put on a similar show the next couple of nights -- check your local listings.

Around the neighborhood. After work (quit a tad early), but still in the light because we're getting past winter. A reasonable effort, I guess.

Plan A and Plan B didn't work out, so Nancy and I went for a walk, the first part of which was on something that probably qualified as a cart road back when people used carts, but now is barely detectable. Back on a manky trail under a power line, then some fiddling around in the back of a junkyard trying to find a way back out to the road. All in the name of nerdy art.
