- Plane to Boston

- Blue line to State Street
- Orange line to North Station
- Commuter rail to North Leominster

hiking (pavement) 1:56:26 intensity: (14:21 @0) + (1:42:05 @1) 3.52 km (33:04 / km) +109m 28:39 / km
ahr:72 max:114 (injured) shoes: Oboz Sawtooth II

Walking around Motovun with Nancy.
1 PM

hiking (pavement) 15:20 [1] 1.22 km (12:35 / km)
ahr:75 max:97 shoes: Oboz Sawtooth II

To the start in Rovinj.

orienteering (urban sprint) 58:06 intensity: (55:44 @1) + (1:32 @2) + (13 @3) + (32 @4) + (5 @5) 4.13 km (14:05 / km) +90m 12:42 / km
ahr:96 max:150 spiked:14/15c shoes: Oboz Sawtooth II

Rovinj, back to the odds for me. Slight uncertainty on #5 as to where the control would have been. On #7, instead of a twisty route through alleys back over the hill, I opted for the simple around option that would have been fast running. However, I failed to account for the big construction area we had walked past on the way to the start, which required us to go much further around.

hiking (pavement) 31:43 [1] 2.07 km (15:21 / km) +55m 13:32 / km
ahr:91 max:113 shoes: Oboz Sawtooth II

Back up to check out the church, then hunted around for a good place to get something to eat, and back to the car.

hiking (pavement) 7:36 [1] 0.52 km (14:44 / km) +6m 13:57 / km
ahr:78 max:102 shoes: Nike React Miler2

From parking to the start in Pula, with Nancy.

orienteering (urban sprint) 59:59 intensity: (5 @0) + (59:00 @1) + (54 @2) ** 4.74 km (12:38 / km) +102m 11:25 / km
ahr:86 max:116 spiked:17/17c (injured) shoes: Nike React Miler2

Pula, some sprint course we found on the web, with Nancy. Today we had a paper map, and she did the odds while I did the evens. Interesting town in terms of ancient architecture, though the orienteering was more ordinary than yesterday.

hiking (pavement) 1:40:48 intensity: (3:04 @0) + (1:37:44 @1) 3.21 km (31:26 / km) +61m 28:43 / km
ahr:75 max:108 shoes: Nike React Miler2

More wandering around town with Nancy, including some time in the tunnels (there's a museum deep under the fort). We bought tickets, but then the exit gate wouldn't accept then to let us out, so we jumped the gate. There's a thing here that looks like the Coliseum in Rome (somewhat smaller), where they're setting up for next weekend's Dua Lipa concerts.
9 AM

hiking (pavement) 16:58 intensity: (4 @0) + (16:54 @1) 0.49 km (34:59 / km)
ahr:72 max:86 shoes: Nike React Miler2

A little walking around at the zoo in Brijuni National Park. The spot where they dropped us off had only two animal exhibits within close walking distance: elephant or donkeys. Who would ever expect to see those two in close proximity?

hiking (pavement) 49:59 intensity: (4:48 @0) + (45:11 @1) 2.79 km (17:56 / km)
ahr:71 max:91 shoes: Nike React Miler2

After the ride around the park on a little safari road train, a stop to see the Tito museum (including Tito's Cadillac), then a stroll to the bistro to get dinner, but the kitchen was already closed, so we just had something to drink then caught the next ferry back.

Wandering around Krk, with Nancy, including a visit to one of the castliest castles I've ever encountered.

hiking (trails) 32:56 intensity: (1:01 @0) + (31:55 @1) 1.2 km (27:21 / km) +30m 24:17 / km

7 AM

hiking (pavement) 16:24 intensity: (5 @0) + (16:19 @1) 0.74 km (22:04 / km) +22m 19:16 / km
ahr:83 max:114 shoes: Nike React Miler2

From the parking to a place for lunch in Omišalj, and then to the start.

orienteering (urban sprint) 32:43 intensity: (30 @0) + (28:49 @1) + (2:22 @2) + (54 @3) + (8 @4) ** 2.11 km (15:29 / km) +51m 13:49 / km
ahr:100 max:146 spiked:12/12c shoes: Nike React Miler2

Omišalj. Before Nancy left for this trip, she had me print out some sprint maps for her. I know I saw a map of this place, but for some reason it wasn't one of the ones that got printed. So I pulled up a copy online and we did it looking at her phone. We alternated legs, with me navigating the odds and Nancy doing the evens. A couple of fun routes, down narrow twisting alleys and through tunnels or up steep stairs that you'd never have guessed would go through without a map. We did the first dozen, then as planned we quit, because the rest of the course went way down many contours to an area that looked less interesting.

hiking (pavement) 11:35 intensity: (11:12 @1) + (23 @2) 0.75 km (15:33 / km) +35m 12:36 / km
ahr:94 max:116 shoes: Nike React Miler2

And back to the car.

hiking (trails) 12:30 [1] 0.43 km (29:25 / km) +3m 28:25 / km
ahr:88 max:113 shoes: Nike React Miler2

Another lighthouse, supposedly, but we were only able to get to the crumbling ancient fort and could barely see a corner of the roof of the lighthouse, even though it was probably less than 10 meters away. The place looked entirely abandoned, and the fort walls would have been easy enough to climb, but even with my limited command of Croatia I could tell that the signs really indicated that people should keep out (including Beware of Dog).
10 AM

hiking (pavement) 46:53 intensity: (48 @0) + (46:05 @1) 2.85 km (16:29 / km) +34m 15:32 / km
ahr:80 max:105 shoes: Nike React Miler2

Wandering around Opatija with Nancy.
1 PM

hiking (pavement) 8:00 [1] 0.8 km (10:02 / km)
ahr:69 max:102 shoes: Nike React Miler2

With Nancy, in Pazin, to get some dinner (forgot to pause the watch while we were eating).

Sunday Jun 9 #

3 AM

hiking (pavement) 1:36:57 intensity: (38 @0) + (1:35:20 @1) + (37 @2) + (22 @3) 3.54 km (27:21 / km) +83m 24:30 / km
ahr:78 max:128 (injured) shoes: Nike React Miler2

Wandering around Rab Grad with Nancy. She says she visited a lot of churches in the past few weeks, but once I arrived they either locked the doors or put up fences around them all. She managed to find one that was open today, though, it being Sunday and open for the usual activities.
12 PM

hiking (pavement) 1:22:36 [1] 4.66 km (17:44 / km) +56m 16:44 / km
ahr:80 max:109 shoes: Nike React Miler2

Wandering around Krk with Nancy. Found a few additional accessible churches.
