Long, mostly easy burn-up, although I am still not feeling in the right condition for a burn-up.
Three parts to the map. The middle block of forest was lovely and the main challenge was adjusting to the quick terrain which made things come up faster than expected. The open land was mostly simple. And the grot to the west was grotty, but how else are you going to get 17k out of the area?
Miffed to have lost time on #29 where I found an unmarked distinct tree and pit in just the right positions relative to one another and on the right line. I was convinced the tree I had found was the right one and attacked the control from it slower and slower, then eventually moved to the fence corner to the NE and walked it from there - found the pit and tree in about the right places, but still no control. I had given it up for lost when I ran off to the W and fell over the control.
On the one hand, I'm sure the map will have been accurate in that the significant tree I found was not dead and so unmapped, and the unmapped pit I found was small. But equally it didn't really feel like an orienteering mistake and in that area I don't think the approach of mapping only trees that were significant AND dead was very helpful. The splits sort of bear this out with half the field making a mistake on a pretty easy control.
Dropped a couple of places and over 2 hrs which I'm sure is making it seem worse than it was!

Tricky area. I thought from the map that with many paths it would be a case of quick to the ap then slow to the control, but that wasn't really right. There were so many paths, and so many twists and turns, that there wasn't really much of a let-up at any point.
Never quite felt fully in control of things, but generally kept the errors down to (many) seconds rather than minutes. Exception was #26 though where I may have made a parallel error and got stuck wading through brambles nowhere particularly near the control.
Physically not feeling great still, but it didn't matter so much.
Got back and thought, someone good will have done this way faster but I'll probably end up in a decent position. And so it was.
8th and not too far off some good orienteers

Nicely planned course and I enjoyed my run. Still not 100% so took it steady.
