Parbold hill race
I thought I'd run this once before but didn't recognise anything about the route. Think it was probably the ashurst beacon race which comes up parbold hill from the other side.
Climbs aren't huge in the grand scheme of things, but there was very little flat running and with the constant mud, turns and stiles it was a very stop-start race. I started off fairly steady, partly thanks to getting bunched in on the exit of the first field, and then worked past a few people.
Again feels like the hr is lower than I could be reaching in a hard race. But on the other hand, the people around me in the results have 5k/10k/half times I'd be happy with and I wasn't consciously holding much back.
Now that I think about it, I remember having a similar problem with cycling, i.e. not being able to get near my max hr on a bike. I wonder if I'm a bit short on running strength and it's my legs holding me back at the mo rather than heart/lungs. Which would suggest I'd get a lot out of hill sprints and drills.
