Trek 3:30:00 [2] 7.7 mi (27:16 / mi) +4956ft 16:57 / mi
shoes: Salomon 3D

Got up at 4ish and did a little stretching while James took off and then back to bed. Good to sleep in... Everyone else hit the road but we got to get our trek on with Team Walker. Much love! THE mammoth hike and so glad we got it in.

Out and back from Pine camp ground to Duck lake. Some good scrambles over snow/rocks/etc and good company as always. (actual time a bit over 4hrs). Felt like I am going to be more sore from the hiking than anything else.

MTN Bike 1:52:00 [3] 12.52 mi (6.7 mph) +3327ft

First ride on my MTB since Richmond...Im such a slacker!

Headed out w/ M from the village after a SBucks and hit as much trail as possible before the snow patches. Great adventure race training weekend! Ended up turning down some DH trails and racing back down paper route/juniper. M is getting quick on the descents! I could only get a cap pushing hard out of the turns and then followed her down J. Deep forest, red wood soaked dirt and water crossings....right as the sun was setting. the kind of ride I wish I had a helmet cam

Solid 4 weeks with lots of good memories and miles. I just need a camp with the DC crew now! Next weekend..Idyllwild?

Swim (open water) 35:00 [3] 0.9 mi (38:54 / mi)

Got in with the warmup crew to get some swim on. Glad I packed my suit! Water was nice and just enough knock some glycogen loose and start the oxygen dept before the ride.

Got to meet and talk w/ Chris Lieto before we swam. Really, really nice guy. Last 3 weeks have been pretty cool getting to see how nice and similar all the camps are...

Road Bike 7:10:00 [3] 126.0 mi (17.6 mph) +10642ft
ahr:126 max:150

Woke up at about 5am w/out alarm just PUMPED to get into the mountains. Dove over to June and rode out to the tri swim start and back (~3mi) before ride due to parking(not recorded). Legs felt a little heavy from the run last night but ready to go. Nutrition and energy rocking all day...no fade, no worries. Comfortable.

The most scenic ride I have ever rolled out…Snow, alpine, loads of animals, vistas…HAPPY!

http://www.trainingpeaks.com/av/V667JGW4EMRE2HKNDL...

Headed out on the June lake loop again and north up to Tioga pass and into Yosemite. 12 mile climb into bliss! Topped out at about 10K, caught some rain, breathless views and cold clouds before heading back down. Rolled back to the truck for the first aid.

Down 395 to Crowley and then Rock Creek. Had my sights set on Sabrina but stop at the market (2nd aid) and the guy told me it was ~40miles and around Bishop. I was already at 88miles and had a monster climb back to Mammoth. Crushed that dream! Then he told me Rock Creek had a lake 9 miles up the road and 3K+ of climbing to ~9,500ft. Right on! I was saving my standing legs for it. Kept the cap of 150 but felt better pushing beyond 8K.

North on the 395 was a “character building section”. Chip road with cracks ever 25ft and a nasty headwind. Holding about 15mph and working for it. Went by fast and once I got to Mammoth the roads were better and the wind almost gone. Finished feeling really good and same as the mountain run my lungs held me back enough to keep my legs fresh. Felt like a solid 50 miler or something. I love mountains!

Road Bike 1:40:00 [3] 29.0 mi (17.4 mph) +1623ft

Took my tri bike and zipp wheels to get some pics for Ellsworth and then found out about the tri here. Super stoked! Went down to the swim start with everyone and then we knocked out a lap around the "June Lake Loop" where the bike course goes. Lots of climbing and lots of wind! Almost blown off my bike a couple of times. Everyone made it back around!

Decided not to race. I like to race but I LOVE to train! Just focused on getting in some trail time here but this race would be a real hard one! 6.5mi trail run and all above 7,500ft.

Running 2:14:00 [3] 14.45 mi (9:16 / mi) +4632ft 7:07 / mi
shoes: Salomon 3D

Got back after ride and got a solid 1hr+ nap. Best sleep I had in a few weeks it felt like…Really needed it.

Running in the mountains does something special inside me!! I am not sure what it is but it is very, very GOOD! 99% single track and non-stop goodness.
Headed out with the girls up Juniper and split off paper route/main lodge/beach cruiser – covered w/ snow so I scrambled up a ski run and down another to downtown/bridges/paper route/big ring/downtown and got to the village at 2hrs/13mi.

Same route we usually do in 5-6hrs…only on bikes! Amazing how the little stops add up. Hit the road back to the condo.

First run in Salomon’s – picked them up on the way out. Avias fell apart. Blister torn but no issues, no pain.

Running (baseline) 1:09:34 [3] 10.15 mi (6:51 / mi) +1254ft 6:08 / mi
shoes: Addidas DC

Same route as last time but with HR this time. Tried to keep HR between 150-155bpm and could feel recovery at/below 153 and breathing harder at 158bpm.

Between bigbear/mammoth camps. Slight head cold and behind on sleep. Stepped in water and blister started at mile 4 in R outside of middle foot...weird spot? No running yesterday, 3hr ride last night. Started run at 10am - no water, 1 gel at mile 3 - 20.5 in the last 7 / 28mi running.

7:40/135, 6:57/149, 6:37/153, 6:27/154, 6:36/155, 6:35/155, 6:44/155, 6:45/156, 6:29/155, 6:42/157

Swim (24hr IE) 1:00:00 [3] 1.86 mi (32:16 / mi)

It was a GOOD call not to drive out last night! Got called into the office and got to work. Get r' done!! Swim on the way out after some food.

4x50

3,100yds

Started thr 100s and rolled into the 1k. Bad idea. Started too fast and felt a big fade. Head stiff stuffy and I could feel the pressure change on flip turns and deep pushes off the wall.

Note

so glad we took our time driving up, stopping along the way and enjoying HIS glory. I love the mountains

Swim (Nova-WAC LCM) 1:00:00 [3] 1.92 mi (31:15 / mi)

Slept in a bit and started packing. Big day at the office to finish up before heading out. Focused office work...race style!

400
4 rounds of 4x50 + 4x100 (descending 5 sec rest on each round to :35/1:25)
100 easy
4x50 drills/mixed
100
------
3,100meters

Felt good to be back in LCM and low elevation. Throat feels much better and did most breathing on 5 stroke and some on 3. Still pretty sore everywhere from the BB camp so skipped a 50 on the 3rd & 4th rounds to stay out of the anaerobic zone. Finishing 100's between 1:20-1:22 just relaxed form.

Road Bike 2:50:00 [3] 46.7 mi (16.5 mph) +975ft

big day at work...Helping Crystal at PVPUSD until 5:37pm. After 5 o clock for pete's sake! Still overcast/wet/cold by the time i got home but managed to seek in a ride. home/PCH/CDM/NewportCoast/SanJ/Backbay/PCH/home

Charged SRM all night and made it around the corner before speed, power and then battery died. POS! held some good steady efforts and fighting the wind most of the ride.

----
Was going to t-run when I got back but it was dark and we still needed to pack and drive out to mammoth. Made the call (proved to be VERY good call) to not run today so I could repeat the back bay test tomorrow, take our time and pack and drive out. No sense in getting there early for the sake of getting there early.

Running (steady) 38:00 [3] 4.6 mi (8:16 / mi)

Quick run on the way home from the LBC at Bolsa. Used the backup gear in the truck(Brooks shoes). Throat was dry the last couple days in BB and moved into my sinus/head cold late last night and today.

Felt better after blowing it out but taking it easy the next couple of days. Need to freshen up before camp number three this week. Its going to be Mammoth!!

Road Bike 2:19:00 [2] 37.0 mi (16.0 mph) +543ft

First real ride on the Ellsworth TT bike. Rolled out in the windy evening up Warner and into Seal Beach. Met Chris and we rolled down to the river path together chatting. Cool guy. Leaving this week to France to ride 8 stages of the tour and is just getting into Tri's.

Got SRM working but then power dropped and then speed and then the battery. Going back to a powertap! Made some adjustments along the way. Head is about the same. Need more sleep.
