EZ spin. Calf muscles sore and a little in upper legs/hips but not bad at all and not like before..finally getting my lazy ass into shape!

swelling in ankle is down too. I think the spin helped. Therefore, it did ;-)

Good times camping last night and a great crowd, overcast morning start and one gnarly course with honestly drop jaw amazing views.

Started too deep in the crowd and had to work to get around mobs of people up the first single track climb in the dark w/ no headlamp. Passing someone at one point I sprained my R ankle. . . but kept running. Have not done that in a long time but I remember from Holcomb that if I just kept going it didnt swell...so I did.

I could see the lead group (7-10 dudes) towards the end of the first climb by the ocean and was working pretty hard to get up there. By the time we got to the first downhill I was running sub 7 on some really technical trails. Slowly but surly becoming a real runner. I had to be happy with that quickness and more time under 7 today than in any IM marathon and on gnar trails...but it was not enough. Shortly after that I lost sight of the group and ran alone until about mile 18.

Would have been nice to run w/ someone for pacing but I got into a good effort. Uncomfortably hard for a 50 mile but uncomfortably happy for a 50K and not any suffering at all...well only the good kind that I look forward to in a RACE. Loving it. Got stronger/increased effort w/ every mile and no fade in energy all day. Vitargo, Vitargo, Vitargo!

By mile 18, I started seeing guys again. I was holding pace on the downhills and still running really good for me but I was making up time on the uphills. That got me stoked because I knew there was a lot more climbing ahead. That continued through mile 26 until I got to the last aid station and they told me I was in 3rd less than 5min behind Hal. Pleasant surprise! I put in a good effort up the last climb and could see him ahead on the switchbacks but I didnt realize yet just how much that climb would bring me to walking...it was hard, it was fun, I love racing!

Course was very technical and people going down and blowing up. I sprained my ankle again at mile 23 and had some crunch. Bummed but way too stoked at how I felt by then and too many things going right. All up, down and off camber, bush scramble, loose rock crazy course. A lot of everything. Slowest mile at 11:30 and fastest, mile 31 at 5:54 pace. Great event and great people. Fun!

long day of meetings and right into an install at EA tonight 7-10pm. All good and just the kick I needed to RACE this weekend.

Cleaning out the garage this weekend I found some old spray painted derailleurs, force painted shifters, cassette and before I knew it just about had built up the frame I had sitting here for almost 3 months now. Dropped if off at Edge yesterday...been over 2yrs since I had a road bike. Time to RIDE!
