Orienteering race 47:52 [5]
Oban 2011 - Day 1
Dunollie and Dunstaffnage
A pretty good run, just keeping contact all the way and trying to make sure I took the most runnable route choices with respect to undergrowth and hills.
#1 - Hit the top of the 100m long crag and went the long way round it to try and get down. Lost 1min30.
#4 - Wrong side of bush. Lost 5secs.
#7 - Accidentally navigated to #8 but it was en-route anyway. Ran some extra distance to a crossing point when there was a gate right in front of me that I was allowed to cross but didnt realise at the time. Lost 40secs.
Total time loss: 2min15.
Was a bit surprised to be 1st, at the time it felt like going to #8 instead of #7 was a major blunder, but looking at it now it didn't lose me much time at all and my route choice was considerably faster than the other options for that leg.
