Note

Bit of a head cold and pretty wiped from the weekend so decided to take the day off.

Orienteering (Flying Pig) 45:00 [4]

Day 3 of the Pig. Had a sore and dry throat starting at dinner Sat night, woke up with it. Took some Ibuprofen, warmed up, ran OK anyway, better than I'd expected but not fast enough to keep up with the young pups.

Hammer first high 39, Sudden 2nd 40, me 3rd 43 for another GHO sweep.

Generally very pleased with the weekend. Gimme 4 more months like the last 4 and I'll run well at the Canadians!

Running 15:00 [3]

Anudder decent warmup although more of an attempt to wake up and stave off death by freezing....

Orienteering (Flying Pig) 1:15:00 [4]

Flying Pig day 2. Another good run, pretty consistent. Couple of slightly questionable route choices, only one control missed, so could have cut 2 or 3 minutes but not much more. Faster woods today but feeling a lack of speed generally.

Hammer had a much better day and took first with high 75; I was second high 77, Sudden 3rd (80?) for a GHO sweep. Moved my Canadian ranking to 10th...

Running 15:00 [3]

Did a good warmup including some fast running, wind sprints.

Orienteering (Flying Pig) 45:00 [4]

First A meet of the year at the Pig, with Hammer, Sudden and ? (Wil Smith). Very hot, thick with vines, low on the fun factor. Orienteered quite well technically although felt very heavy physically - partly the heat.

Hammer flamed out, Smith is out of shape, and Sudden made some mistakes, so I managed a win. Sergei from Brooklyn was second, Sudden third.

Not a bad start to the season.

Running 15:00 [3]

warmup, did a good warmup, included some wind sprints.

Relatively easy run on Bruce in Beamsville. Staying loose for the Pig.

Sunday Mar 23, 2003 #

Running 1:00:00 [1]

Slow run along the Bruce near Beamsville. Taking it easy before the Pig, been feeling tired and sore despite easing off this week.

Saturday Mar 22, 2003 #

Orienteering (course setting) 1:50:00 [1]

Ran a good part of the Burlington Adventure Run course, checking things out. Lots of slow running and stops along the way, generally very easy pace. Pulled muscle still sore and very tight, but can run OK.

Running (intervals) 30:00 [5]

Intervals at Chedoke with Sudden, Snoop, Hammer, Hustler et al. Felt good the first 4 then faded fast - straight winded. Skipped #8, slight muscle pull on # 9, sat out #10. Small muscle in back of thigh (my knowledge of anatomy sucks) very tender, tight as a rock after workout.

Sloshed my way through Bronte.

Sunday Mar 16, 2003 #

Running 30:00 [4]

Workout with GHO Canada GHO. Got dark early, couldn't keep it moving. Made a couple of classic errors so worthwhile anyway - some pre-season reminders. Pace slowed down after this, ran with Hammer and Jason C.

Running 40:00 [2]

warmup warmdown at Ancaster Creek.

Cross Country Skiing 50:00 [1]

Skied at Short Hills, but conditions were awful - no snow! Completely different from Bronte yesterday.... Bailed out and put on the running shoes instead.

Running 1:10:00 [2]

Ran from short hills up around St Johns and back (mostly thin snow cover on dirt roads). Very pretty area.

Monday Mar 3, 2003 #

Running 1:10:00 [2]

Ran at Rockcliffe, last half in the dark - very cold, lots of snow but ran much on snowmobile track so not hard all the way. Very pleasant being out on my own in the night, enjoyed it a lot. Got some ideas for the adventure run....

Sunday Mar 2, 2003 #

Running 1:10:00 [2]

Ran Bruce and side trails from 5th Ave to Louth and back. Couple of good hills but didn't go out of my way for them - feeling yesterday and chest has been yucky the last week or so.

Saturday Mar 1, 2003 #

Ran an old course 7 at Hilton Falls with Snoop and Hammer. Deep snow, hard work.
