| LSD run with the gang. Warm and muggy (80 degrees and >95% humidity) throughout. I did not carry water, which was unwise. I immersed my lower legs in the fountain at 8.5, which felt great, but I was still quite sluggish and sapped almost throughout. The moderate pace, which was about 9:00 for the first half, felt increasingly difficult after around 6 miles (or maybe it was because of having taken a stretch break at 4.5) and I fell off the back. During the added 1-mile loop up Whisper Drive (steep hill shaped like a lollipop), I walked part of the uphill and *still* averaged HR 151 for the entire loop. |

| From home, the Crusher loop, around the reservoir and up South St. Late afternoon ride, warm. The threatened rain did not come until I was done, thankfully.
It's been a while since I've read about HR and cycling, but I think the fact that my average and max HR were so high is a sign of having a good amount of muscle mass.
This was my first road ride in a while, and the first road ride of any serious intensity in a longer while. It was just what I needed to avoid the pounding on my legs. |

| ARRT figure eight on the southern portion of the rail trail. The trail now has map kiosks, some trailside art, and the occasional bench. From my perspective it lacks the occasional trash receptacle and nearby porta-pots. Is it wishing too much for one of the nearby construction projects to contribute to the trail by contracting for porta-pot placement for a couple of months, nearby their office or housing construction? |

| Salisbury out-and-back. Tried to keep HR near 140, and succeeded on average, but at times it was as high as 166. The effort did not feel that high. I wonder if my HRM is misreading. It recorded a bogus max HR. It felt good to get out on the road again.
For dinner, I made pasta primavera with some of the CSA garden veggies, french bread that I had made by bread machine on a delayed setting, and roasted garlic to spread on top. For dessert, the piece de resistance was a fruit kuchen made *almost* exclusively with fruit from our garden: the first serious harvest of cherries from our cherry tree (about 2 cups unpitted), a first strawberry, a handful of blueberries, and some rhubarb. Susan supplemented these with a few store-bought strawberries on top.
As an aside, the cherry tree is tall enough that I cannot reach the highest branches from the topmost "safe" step on a stepladder. Even the peach tree, which looked feeble for so many years, has finally taken off. No flowers that I've seen, but it has grown to about my height from a spindly 4' a couple of years back. |

| Exchanged the MTB tube for Presta-valve one. I've changed plenty of tubes on my road bike, but this was my first change on the MTB. I've had new road tires, too, but getting the MTB tire remounted on the rim was a serious amount of work. I was unprepared for the amount of effort required. I was unable to brute-force the tire onto the rim. In the end, I used a pair of tire levers and a lot of force, even using the levers.
Phew. |
