| Out-and-back along Lake Michigan, from Shorewood to Fox Point and back.
Lots of runners, walkers, and cyclists along Lake Drive. Think Charles River but nestled beside elegant houses, well-manicured lawns, and a scattering of churches and parks, too.
Northbound 1:01:07; southbound 57:59. Southbound included a brisk traverse across Whitefish Bay (Susan's hometown :-) ) with ave HR of 157.
Interesting license plates seen in WFB: MNKYMN and OREOWMN, though not near each other.

| [Bexley, OH, a suburb of Columbus]
A morning run, short and brisk, because we needed to hurry to pack and get up to Milwaukee for evening festivities. (Forgot that we "gained" an hour when we crossed into CDT.)
This run was in sharp contrast to another run from this same house a few years ago, in which I strayed from Bexley (a very well-to-do town) into some seedier parts of Columbus. Our hosts pointed me to the nearby Alum Creek Trail, which I found without difficulty, and ran a bit on, crossing 3 bridges (1 twice, 2 once, in case you're worried about the topology). Two were auto bridges, but one was a wooden suspension bridge at Wolfe Park, intended for the trail (dogs, walkers, runners, cyclists). Approaching the suspension bridge perpendicularly, I could not guess what long cables were doing at low angle from the ground, inside the park, going up into the canopy of trees adjacent to the creek. As I neered, I saw they were the cables of a suspension bridge. All in all, a very pleasant run.
Columbus seems like a fitness-minded city. I saw several runners on the residential streets before I even got to the commercial district or the park.
A note on the Columbus Running Club group run of the day before. I chose to skip the group run because it coincided with dinner with friends, but I guessed why no distance was specified: the start point was a park on a trail, and it looked like any distance could be run. The odd coincidence was that the group run began less than a mile from where we were visiting and having dinner, in Upper Arlington, before setting off with other friends to Bexley, Ohio. |

| Easy paced out-and-back from the hotel [Cleveland suburbs]. Plenty warm at 8:30 in the morning.

| Drove Worcester to outside Cleveland, failing to get all the way to Columbus, OH. Anticipate being in Columbus tomorrow afternoon, so I googled Columbus running clubs to see if there's a local race or group run I could take part in. Found one, with directions, but no mileage. There are references to further details in their web site, which it appears one has to LOG IN to obtain. Grrr. How social is that?
Maybe I'll get a run in tomorrow morning before we set off for Columbus. |

| Horse loop from work, very even splits 18:37/18:32 especially given the topography: downhill out, uphill back. Steady effort on final uphill. |

| No major aches after Sunday's long run.
Had enough energy to mow the lawn for a few hours in the afternoon.
Early evening, decided to go for a bike ride; noticed that the tires on my road bike don't match. The front tire, unused while on the trainer, is new, while the rear tire, which had been on the trainer for quite a while, was smooth (old), and showing threads through a worn place. Seems that (clever me!) when I bought new tires a while back, I decided to keep the old one on for riding the trainer. This is fine for spinning indoors, and not such a good choice for taking the bike outside.
So I had just taken the MT bike upstairs when the phone rang, and I was called down the street to help make a minyan (quorum of 10 adults) for evening services. Oh well, perhaps Someone preferred me off the roads today. :-) |
