Orienteering race 7:20:00 [2] 29.0 km (15:10 / km)
shoes: Jalas2

Hudson Highlander -- going in, I thought my fitness was OK, my O experience and skills were rusty. Lost most of the train on #4, then injured my R ankle on #9. I couldn't roll heel-to-toe, although I could push off with my R foot. The uneven footing made for some ouch-y foot plants. Managed to limb along, with Sharon from #5 onward.

The woods were spectacular. Sharon got bonkd by a few acorns, I think. One spectacular vista as we were side-hilling. Scared up 4 deer, two of whom took off up a steep rocky reentrant the likes of which I wouldn't have wanted to have to climb.

Low back muscles quite achy and overtired, as expected. R ankle painful, maybe swollen.

trail running 40:30 [1] 4.75 mi (8:32 / mi)
shoes: BA9

Along the Mass Central Rail Trail with Ed K. Moderate rain falling throughout. Only saw a couple of people walking dogs. No one else on the trails. My legs were pretty shot, and I realize now that I haven't taken a rest day in about 10 days. I guess it's time to taper or take a day off.

Note

I called Sports Street Marketing when I got home. They make Gu and related products. I asked if they have discontinued the "Stash Your Trash" redemption program, because I had sent in 110 empties in late July but had not received any new Gu yet. They have recently discontinued the program, but they found my package, made reference to the note I enclosed saying I like the Chocolate flavor, and said, since I'm such a long-time, loyal customer, they'd send me some new Gu.

So the unfortunate news is the program is finished. They won't redeem empty Gu packages 10 for 1 for new gels. The good news is that customer service and a positive attitude is alive and well, at least in one company in California.
