Paddling warm up/down 3:00 [1]

From campsite to the start box. Not really a warmup.

Paddling race 1:00:44 [3] 3.1 mi (19:35 / mi)
ahr:136 max:172

Canoe-O solo. My M.O. is to race this early in the hopes of avoiding the powerboats. I was unsuccessful at that today. My route crossed the wake from the powerboats twice. I made one route choice around the far side of an island where it was slightly longer and required turning the boat around after punching, so I could avoid the wake. (7 to 15)

I punched 11 out of 16 controls. S-2-3-6-7-15-8-10-9 (spiked the land control even without any elephant tracks of other boats taking out there)-11, under the bridge, then 12, 4, took out and portaged across the land to Neal's Cove, then back to the S/F box and ran to the finish. 60:44, so no penalty points.

Top speed paddling was about 3.4-3.6mph, so that's good speed for me.

Paddling warm up/down 15 [1] 0.75 mi (20 / mi)

Took a leisurely route back to camp to visit control #1, which I had skipped during the race, but contemplated attempting to get on foot. Good choice to punt this, as the water looked deep (and as Ed said, mucky on the bottom). It would not have been pleasant to wade/swim/slog to reach #1.

Paddling 20:00 [1] 0.5 mi (39:59 / mi)

Half a day of work and then a rushed departure for Pawtuckaway. I left several important but not crucial items (chargers, some food items) at home. Got to the park in plenty of daylight to set up my tent and unload gear, and go for a brief paddle. The water level was lower than I'd ever seen before. Since my boat only has about 2-3" of draft, I made it under a nearby bridge without bottoming out, but there were a lot of places where rocks lurk below the water line.

Water was very peaceful with no one out on the lake. Darrel and Michelle came in with their kayaks and I thought they said they had hung the Canoe-O controls, but found out later that Liz and Ed had done it.
