| Command run. A lot of people, but they were surprisingly well sorted. I nice, cool morning. |
Thursday Sep 29 |
 | Orienteering 3:30:00 [1] ** 9 km (23:20 / km) +300m 20:00 / km | |

| Night nav practice at Lake Sylvia with the AR folks. It was ROGAINE style nav, took most of it walking. Good to be out at night. I probably need another light... |
Tuesday Sep 27 |
 | Cycling (mtn bike) 42:00 [2] 9.0 mi (4:40 / mi) | |

| Quick ride on the NE side of base before it got dark. Getting to be a busy week! |
Monday Sep 26 |
 | Running 21:00 [2] 2.21 mi (9:29 / mi) | |

| Super quick (as in, short, not fast) run after rehearsal. Concentrated on keeping a good turnover at a slower pace. |
Sunday Sep 25 |
 | Running 41:30 [2] 4.0 mi (10:22 / mi) | |
| shoes: Kayano XI - white |
| Did the "Yellow" loop. Felt a little behind the curve. It was much more humid than usual. It's a nice loop though, a few hills here and there thrown in just to keep it amusing... |
Saturday Sep 24 |
 | Running 18:00 [2] 1.5 mi (11:59 / mi) | |
| shoes: Mountain Ridge |
| Went to Pinnacle Mtn State Park. Ran the base trail to the western summit trail. Former was very runnable, the latter not as much. Ended up going down the "more treacherous" east summit trail because Rita was starting to spit on me at the top. Great views from up there! |
 | Hiking 37:00 [3] 1.4 mi (26:25 / mi) +300m 9:52 / km | |

| The hiking portion (most of the up and the top part of the down). |

| Pilates/Yoga class at the fitness center. I think "pilates" is really an ancient Sanskrit word meaning "to torture the abdominals in new and exciting ways". I'm definitely a little weak in that region. The yoga section wasn't really that great. The instructor seems to focus more on moves and getting into poses without much focus on breathing. She doesn't really talk through it well, either, and she didn't do any walking around to correct or help people. It's the only class at the gym, though, so if I can I'll be back, to get it in. |
 | Cycling 40:00 [2] 9.0 mi (4:27 / mi) | |

| Tooling around base. Went over to the east and took every turn I could. There's a lot of space out there. My armadillos held up well, unfortunately my front tube did not. First flat in over 2 years! Close enough to walk back. Riding around this base will be much nicer than Randolph...trees, quiet roads, small hills... |

| First run at "The Rock". I think I'm going to enjoy my 4 months here. Unfortunately, tonight I was extremely sluggish, I guess still feeling the remnants of the nasty cold. Can't rule out the effect of all of the traveling over the past week, either. I'm excited to really to some serious, planned training over the next few months. (How many times am I going to say that before it really happens?) |

| (sick) |
| Wanted to note in here to myself that today and the two surrounding days were major travel days (BOS-SAT-LIT) and I'm suffering from a nasty head cold. It's a bummer not to get in *any* running, but a little rest after the awesome summer is okay. Probably good for me! |
Sunday Sep 18 |
 | Orienteering race 1:07:00 [3] 4.8 km (13:57 / km) | |
| shoes: Mountain Ridge |
| NEOC meet at Great Brook Farm State Park. First time O'ing there, rather than skiing or mtn biking. Nice park, but probably better suited to the beginner courses...
I'd like to think that the fact that I have a cold and that I didn't have my glasses on affected my ability to read the map, but I'm near-sighted and I felt okay. I really had a hard time physically reading the map as I went, which is just more confirmation that I need to do that kind of training. |

| Stuck with the CRO and CCT trainees for about 2 miles, then backed off. I have no idea if that's the right distance...felt like definitely faster than 8's for the first two. CCT says 7:30 pace. The stupid line drawings of running routes in the room seems to say that the approximate loop that we ran (it's impossible to tell for sure) was 3.5. Seems a little short. |
Thursday Sep 8 |
 | Note | |
| |
| I was going to click "rest day", but I'm not sure that spending the day in a fake POW camp for "resistance training" can really be rest, even if I wasn't running around. Back to business tomorrow. I promised the PJ trainees that I'd (try) to run with them tomorrow. Great. They'll smoke me! |
Wednesday Sep 7 |
 | Hiking 1:00:00 [2] 3 km (20:00 / km) | |
| |
| More evading. Yadda yadda, got caught twice, blah blah blah. |
Tuesday Sep 6 |
 | Hiking 1:00:00 [2] 2 km (30:00 / km) | |
| |
| More evading. This time we spent no less than six hours "evading" in the same place. It was awesome. And then, that night, after being "rescued", we had to wait silently, hiding in a field waiting to really be rescued. I, however, refused to be rescued, because I don't believe that "if you were a teenage mutant ninja turtle, what kind of animal would you be" is a convincing authentication question. |
Monday Sep 5 |
 | Hiking 1:00:00 [2] 2.0 mi (29:59 / mi) | |
| |
| First day "evading". Most of this time was spent hiding and being vewy, vewy quiet. |
Sunday Sep 4 |
 | Hiking 3:00:00 [3] 6 km (30:00 / km) +200m 25:43 / km | |

| Second day at survival. Smaller packs, but a lot more climb and distance. Ate rabbit the night before for dinner, that morning for breakfast, and again that night for dinner. Mmm, rabbit stew... |
Saturday Sep 3 |
 | Hiking 2:00:00 [2] 4 km (30:00 / km) | |
| |
| First day in the field for survival training. Total guess on pace/time. Mostly just being out there, moving around with a pack, building shelters, skinning rabbits, etc... |
Thursday Sep 1 |
 | Running 41:00 [2] 4.1 mi (10:00 / mi) | |

| Dirt roads at Fairchild at night, again. Had a lot of energy, but legs felt a little fatigued. Had some awesome tunes, though, and the weather was great. |
