| At Fairchild. Someone should tell me that running in the dark along dirt roads that say, "WARNING: Explosive Ordinance Disposal" isn't a good idea. | ||

| First day of Western States Champs. It was going great until I boomed number 7 (about 15 min lost). After that I was discouraged, very thirsty, and tired. The map was just a jumble of lines and colors. Still, no big errors for the second half, but I didn't commit to route choices and probably lost of lot of time being hesitant. More in the analysis...
I think I can work to maintain the pace/feel that I had in the first half over an entire Red course. Some of it is most certainly conditioning.
Red - Splits | ||
Wednesday Aug 17 | ||
| Running 33:00 [2] 3.2 mi (10:17 / mi) | ||
| ahr:165 max:180 shoes: Kayano XI - white | ||
| Late evening run by the flightline. Took it at an easy, conversational pace without paying attention to HR, just to see how it went. Felt good, except I had that feeling that I get in my lower legs at the end of a newly long run. Could just be the lack of regular, steady running lately. | ||
Tuesday Aug 16 | ||
| Running 30:00 [2] 2.5 mi (11:59 / mi) | ||
| ahr:158 max:166 weight:152lbs shoes: Kayano XI - white | ||
| First run back. Also a first return to playing with the HRM. It was really really hard to keep my HR below 160. I think that calls for a MHR test to see what I really need to be doing. Plus, after 30+ hours of traveling, weird sleep hours, and not being well hydrated, maybe it'd be hard no matter what...
It's quite a bit warmer and more humid here!
Wednesday Aug 10 | ||
| Running 20:00 [2] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Kayano X | ||
| Easy run, Berlin. | ||
Friday Aug 5 | ||
| Orienteering race 3:30:00 [3] 11.5 km (18:16 / km) | ||
| orienteering day for the competition. Distance doesn't take into account the "special" physical challenges. ;-) | ||
