Note
(sick)
Travel day - Sudbury to PVD to SAT. Yikes. On my way to Providence I missed the 95/93/1/128/wtf split, which means that I drove right by the Houghton Pond exit, where NEOC just happens to be holding a meet and general meeting today. It was obviously an effort by my subconcious (or the O gods, like Odin) to get me to orienteer. Unfortunately, I would have been about 2 hours early for registration, and would certainly have missed my flight. Sooon....

So far so good on the mysterious illness today.

update: I spoke too soon. Symptoms back by early evening. This blows. I know rest is good, but I don't get any faster sitting on my ass with a fever. Today was the mildest so far, so hopefully it's about done.

Travel day - SAT to PVD to Cambridge to Concord to Stow to Sudbury. Phew. Same pattern as yesterday - felt fine in the morning and the symptoms came back in the afternoon. A dose of something helped, and this time they didn't come back again in the evening, which was a very good thing. No running yet. :-(

Friday Jun 9

Cycling (road) 10:00 [1]

I felt a bit better this morning, so I didn't go to sick call as planned. So of course the fever, body aches and lethargy came back in full force later this morning. It's not too bad, but I certainly can't run.

Off to Austin to show my parents the bats! Yum.

I feel worse than poop.

Hmm, yesterday I noticed a swollen lymph node and today I felt mildly virally affected, with perhaps more swelling. I hope it's just some passing virus and not an infection or something. Not up for exertion today. Bah.

On the positive side, my parents are here, my mom wants to hit the 1000 Day with me (as much as I can make), and I'm actually going to make it to this weekend's wedding (but a very, very quick trip, so no O for me while in MA).

Tuesday Jun 6

Running (trail) 58:00 [2] 5.8 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Trail
Got out to McAlister for a morning trail run. The big wigs at the Pentagon recently decided that the AF needs to stop being a bunch of wussy nerds who get beat up for their lunch money, so we get to take 1.5 hours out of the duty day, 3-5 times per week, for physical training. So this morning I took PT time, which means I could show up at work at 9 instead of 7:30, and that gave me enough time for a good run.

Low 70s, humid, cloudy. Knew it would be a good animal day when I saw a half dozen deer, 2 bunnies, and an armadillo (live!) before I even got to the parking lot. After 10 min warmup, did 1 minute quicker at the beginning of every 5 to change things up a bit.
Running intervals (trail) 12:00 [3] 1.33 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Trail
Strength/Core (stretching) 12:00 [1]
After the run, once I got home.

Yup.

So it's a good thing I'd decided not to do anything today, because I am really dragging and totally exhausted. I'm not sure that I got any solid sleep last night. Could be the 5 hour nap, but I suspect that my very vivid and horrifying dream is the real cause. Maybe they're connected? It was so realistic that every time I woke up (which was often), I had serioius thoughts go through my mind about whether I could plea bargain to reduce the sentence on my double murder if I were caught, or whether it was better just to lie low, since no one suspected me. Yet. I still remember all the details, which is strange, and I can't believe that my brain came up with it. It's worthy of serious hollywood consideration.
