Note
(sick)
Okay, clicked "sick" since I'm being prevented from doing any training. Don't quite feel like I've been hit by bus... maybe just a minivan. But I did manage to sleep for about 5 hours in the afternoon, so obviously my system is quite out of whack. Quite disappointing to be sick on a weekend! Grrr.

Friday Apr 27

Note
(rest day)
Planned rest day. Also day 1 as a homeowner. Funny, I don't feel any different with 30 years of debt as I did with none.

Unfortunately, also day 1 of some kind of illness, I think. Just a sore throat for now. Blergh.

Skating (inline skating) 36:30 [2] 6.0 mi (6:05 / mi)
Had to give Seabass a ride into work this morning so I decided to do some early morning PT. Stopped off at Reid on the way back from the hospital and skated two laps. Quite a bit quicker this time. About 18:45 for the first and 17:45 for the second. Soon I'll have to do three laps to make it a worthwhile outing!

Nice morning, 60s, and more and more people out on the path as it got a little later. Saw two dog-like critters out on the golf course romping around. Didn't get a good look at them but I'd have to guess they were coyotes. I guess they like golf.
Running (road and dirt) 53:00 [2] 5.2 mi (10:11 / mi)
shoes: Kayano XII (pink)
First meeting of the new Tucson Orienteering Club training group! There were only three of us meeting at Peg's but it was a good start. I ran with Brucker in and along the arroyo to the Reid bike path for a bit and back.

Backing up a bit... before that I drove to Safeway to buy some foodstuffs. Stepped out of the car and realized that I had locked my keys inside. While standing there wondering WTF to do I brilliantly realized that I was less than a mile from Peg's place, so I just ran there. I wasn't even late! So then, of course, we had this conversation about lost keys and keeping spares and wouldn't you know it but Brucker's car key fell out of his pocket during the run! He's smart enough to have a spare on the car, making me feel especially silly. But still making for a very high percentage of key incidents for one outing.
Strength/Core (stretching) 8:00 [1]
Some much needed stretching after the run. I've used my legs good.

But what I really need to do (aside from orienteer more) is play some StepMania. Can't wait to be able to pull the dance pad out of storage!

Cycling (road) 2:24:00 [2] 45.5 km (3:10 / km) +400m 3:02 / km
Pre- and post-rush hour ride to Gates Pass. 80s, not much wind (thank goodness). Very nice ride. Lots of lights and stop signs this side of the river. About 1:20 out and up and 1:04 back, even with a more relaxed route back from the U of A to the hotel. Had to sit in basically my lowest gears for the climb. But hey, I made it. (It's really not that bad, but it always impresses non-cyclists.)

I spooked a bird at one point and of course that spooked me, which caused me to swerve out into the road, which spooked the car that was about to pass me, which of course caused him to swerve into the road and, well, it's just good no one was coming the other way. All for a stupid bird! I'm a wuss.

This was essentially a pre-burn to prepare myself in case I get some good eats tonight.

Running (dirt) 34:00 [3]
shoes: Kayano XII (pink)
WoG session. About 10 min warmup, strides, then a light workout - 4x400 "hardish" (I ran them at 7min/mi pace) with 400 recovery. Then a short cooldown. Nice out. 70s, I think.

The number of bizarre small world encounters I've had in the past week is somewhat alarming. I'm almost afraid that I'm going to run into myself.
C • Back to the future? 6
Strength/Core (stretching) 10:00 [1]
Stretching before and after running plus some pushups and crunches again.

Note
Sheesh, I'm falling behind. They're all ones, but I'll put them in order of preference to make it a little more informative:

Running (trail) 44:00 [2] 6 km (7:20 / km) +120m 6:40 / km
ahr:156 max:184 shoes: Asics Trail Attack III
Well, I'm in love. Went running in Saguaro East starting from the Douglas Springs trailhead. Awesome. I don't know if I'll always feel like it is such a spectacular place to run or if it was just a combination of the weather, the flowering cacti, the sunset, my chipper mood, the company, whatever. But it was really great running. Sweet trails and gorgeous views.

In negative news I have to take my fitness test next week and it doesn't look good from the strength side of the house. Even crunches!
