| I would like to note for the record that any kind of insidious onset post-traumatic heat disease that I may develop should be entirely blamed on Seabass.
We planned for a hike today. In Tucson in the summer that means that you go up in the mountains. We didn't, despite my desires, because Seabass stepped outside at about 10am and said, "It's not very hot, let's just hike close by." It was cloudy. It wasn't cloudy when we rolled up to the trailhead. In fact, it was sunny and murderously hot. We passed one couple out on the trail that were using their car sun blocker reflector things to shield their heads. Very clever. The first thing they said to us was, "It is unpleasantly hot today." Yes, yes it was. And we are all stupid. We started up the Douglas Spring Trail with high expectations, quickly squashed as soon as we started moving. Just after passing the intersection with Carillo (~1 mile up) Seabass surrendered and we decided to loop back down to the car. Last time I tried to find Carillo I lost it and had to zip back down the way I came, but this time we found it and finished off the square, so at least we were productive in that way. AOWN: Saw a bunch of butterflies, approximately 319 lizards, and one snake. It was pretty sweet, a black coachwhip, on the hunt. Its head was high and it was coming down the trail towards a few tasty lizards, lizards who were saved by the fact that that was in our direction, too, and this snake didn't seem too keen on eating us. Not a dangerous snake, but also not particularly cute, either. Either today's weight is wrong or yesterday's is. I'm hoping for yesterday. :-)

| I just spent approximately 7 seconds repeatedly clicking on the "bottom" link and scrolling back to the top. That's so sweet! How long as that been there? | ||

| I'm posting a number that represents my weight. It is too high. I want to post it everyday to help motivate myself to eat smarter. This has not been happening because I forget. And sometimes because I'm scared to look. Please feel free to inquire about the number and do not think that that's rude. A little gentle badgering might help.
Next big event is the sprint series finals + relay champs. That's 4 weeks. I'll shoot for 144.

| The website's up, so now it's time to start plugging Tucson's February A meet.
Looks like Tom beat me to the punch with the NTOA meet... but really, I think they'd make a great pair for a week of warm winter orienteering!

| Riding in to work. I unsicked myself this morning. | ||
| Running (road) 27:00 [2] 2.84 mi (9:29 / mi) | ||

| Stopped in on the way for squadron PT. Ran some warm-up laps on the track, then administered a practice test for a few guys (including running the last lap with one), then going for 20 min on the road. Felt pretty shabby, but that's to be expected after 9 days of the apparently not-quite-neverending cold.
I feel like the squadron needs a lesson on even or negative splits. Like, you know, if you want to run 1.5 miles in 10:30 (7 min pace), you shouldn't start at close to 6 min pace. Or if you find that you have started that fast, you should perhaps slow down a bit on the next lap. Or a lot. But if I tried to share information on pacing, or practicing your pace, etc., it probably wouldn't be well received...

| Forgot about the pushups and situps in the morning.
We (finally) had some more torrential rain, knocking out power at work and at home. Riding home would have been shady unless I'd waited a long time, so I got a ride with the plan of running to work on Monday. I just have to figure out how best to carry extra underwear with me. Rain (finally) allowed me to do some yard work. Had a good time with the Hula-Ho. I can't believe how much energy we have to expend to get rid of life in our back yard. We live in a desert and we don't plant things and we don't water it. Why is it covered in green stuff? No fair.

| Still sick. But I think this virus is on its death bed. Thankfully.
Went to the eye doc today to see about getting contacts. Seems that the visual acuity in my left eye has *improved* since March, though the astigmatism has increased. It's a trade-off, I guess. I also asked about PRK, since orienteering without having to use any corrective equipment is even better than having contacts. The whole lasers to the eye thing is sort of freaky, but I figured I should think about it. Pros: -very, very high success rate by the AF docs, which means -high chance of never needing glasses/contacts ever Cons: -slight risk of, um, blindness -have to spend 2 weeks in Texas for the procedure Toss-up: -will be on non-flying status for about 10 weeks So... yeah. Got to think about it.

| Ride in. Still sick. Cue "this is the cold that never ends... it goes on and on my friends... people started getting it not knowing what it was and they'll continue getting it forever just because this is the cold that never ends... it goes on and on my friends..." | ||
| C • Now that's stuck in my head. ... 1 | ||
| Cycling (road) 18:00 [3] | ||
| Ride home. Pretty warm out. I am feeling better now, much less congested. Enough so that I might run again tomorrow. Yay! | ||

| Didn't feel any worse this morning, except for the cold. Somehow that got worse but my neck's almost fine. Uneventful ride in. Put new cleats on my sandals. Better, but I think it's time for new pedals. | ||
| Cycling (road) 20:00 [1] | ||
| Home, slowly because I felt yucky. Seabass came back from the East coast on Friday a virus. I hope I didn't just trade an AZ virus for a MA virus. | ||

| Note | ||
| I guess I should be careful what I wish for. I was car number 2 in a 4-car accident this morning on my way to work. Not a big deal, I'm fine, just a little whiplash and a few new character enhancements to the front and rear of my car. So it's basically like a bad night of headbanging. But I really should be careful about those wishes. | ||
