Saturday Sep 1

Running (trail) 50:00 3.7 mi (13:31 / mi) +250m 6:56 / km
weight:144lbs shoes: Asics Trail Attack III
Afternoon run on the Green Mtn trail in the Catalinas. Lovely trail, goes basically up upper Bear Canyon. Bit of a storm brewing overhead and I did get a bit of rain. I guess I scared Seabass as we parted early on when I said, "Be careful of the canyon and flash floods." She didn't stay out long, especially once it started raining.

Didn't have much oomph today, not surprisingly, had to hike a bunch of the steeper parts. Pooh. Took an awesome spill on the granite gravel on the way down, like a bad slide into second base. Good scrapes, not too much blood, though.

Today I learned that my cell phone fits in my key pocket, at least the one in my Asics shorts. Crazy! I forgot to wear a watch and needed a way to know when to turn around, so I just set the alarm on the phone for 30 minutes and stuffed it in the pocket. Not a bad solution, might do that to carry it some other time.

Distance a total guess.

This bed thing is getting ridiculous. I can't seem to sleep full nights, so even on a vacation day I woke up at a normal early hour (6:30ish)... but then conked out a few hours later. Slept until... 3:30! And didn't feel much better afterwards. Not a very good day.

Thursday Aug 30

Cycling (road) 20:00 [2]
In to work for our Thursday-disguised-as-Friday morning PT, which was actually weed-pulling/trash-pickup-disguised-as-PT.

I don't think that people need to be lied to in order to get them to weed.
Cycling (road) 20:00 [1]
Ride home. Pretty sunny out. Leisurely. The toy was still at the intersection, only it appeared to have broken in half and been seared black.

WoG! Pretty chill today, but it was v. good.

Did one lap for warmup, followed by stretching, situps, pushups and newbie harrassment. Then 1 lap plus the Viola loop followed by strides and running drills.

This whole bumping into people I knew thing is getting fun. Today I saw at least three other people from the UA Cycling team of 02-03. Crazy. And all these people and their friends live within about a 1-mile radius of my house. Crazy. Tucson is fun.
Strength/Core 10:00 [1]
Stretching, crunches, pushups, etc.
Running (grass) 12:00 [3]
Strides and drills.

Wednesday Aug 29

Cycling (road) 20:00 [2]

Ride in. Since we have Friday off (wuhu!) and tomorrow's a "training day", this almost already feels like Friday.
Cycling (road) 20:00 [1]
Ride home. Mostly uneventful except for the apparently misplaced adult toy lying in the left turn lane at Swan and 29th.

Tuesday Aug 28

Note
WoG begins!
Cycling (road) 20:00

Ride in. Sort of quicklike.

Ironically didn't have time to be civilized and shower this morning.

Also barely slept last night. Awful.
Cycling (road) 20:00 [2]
Ride home, about 4 hours later than planned. I was really, really excited about the Workout Group starting up again tonight and of course that means that I ended up having to miss it. We got tasked with a real-world rescue mission at work and I happened to be the duty officer, which meant staying a bit late as we got stuff rolling. There could certainly be worse reasons for missing WoG. Hopefully I'll make it Thursday.

Monday Aug 27

Running (road/dirt) 43:00 [2] 4.5 mi (9:32 / mi)
weight:143.5lbs shoes: Kayano XII (pink)
Ran in to work. I can tell that this is going to be way more fun in the winter. I love Tucson, but the area between my house and the base is not the most upscale and beautiful. Not to mention, it was warm and slightly humid, there was lots of cars and exhaust, and the dirt along the streets is strewn with trash. It could almost be Dakar.

I left almost everything I needed at work - uniform, shorts and tee, pocket-stuffing accessories, and boots. I ran with my Camelbak Flashflo, which was big enough to stuff my wallet, keys, phone, and clean underwear. Plus water, just because I can. But it's not very comfortable. It would be best if I could run without carrying anything at all, but I'm not sure how to pull that off.

Gate guards looked at me like I was a freak and asked me where my bike was.

Weight at 143.5 this morning. No indications that I was dehydrated so... new goal is 141 by the Relay Champs. Funny, I think my goal for the NAOCs last year was 140. Grr.
C • Dakar ... or Kiev 6
C • yay :) the running to work clu... 10
Cycling (road) 18:00 [2]
Ride home, a little earlier than planned since the power went out *again* at work. But this time it wasn't because of a storm, it was because some genius backed into a power pole.
Note
Today's proof that being beautiful doesn't mean you're stupid.

Skating 29:00
Skated a lap+some around the golf course with Seabass, who wanted to do something outside this evening. It was actually pretty nice out, the sun blocked and almost set and a strong breeze. Tons of people. It's so awesome to see so many people out exercising, even if at least half of them are walking and they are all just getting in my way.
