| A little more exploring today, morning run instead of evening. It was a little later than I had expected and the sun a bit stronger and my hydration not so great, so I didn't do a long run like I kind of thought that I would. I mean, it's not like I had much else to do. Out to the gate and then a bit of exploring on the other site of the tent village. | ||

| I got fairly last-minute notice that I was to spend the week at an exercise in Gila Bend, AZ. I was a little worried about being able to get the courses done for the Tucson meet this weekend (still worried), but sort of ambivalent about the experience otherwise. I'd spent the past few weeks trying to learn my job in preparation for "deploying" for the exercise, and now I was going to play in it, too. At least I could see what worked well and what didn't first-hand.
We stayed in tent shelters at the auxiliary field and basically sat around in a very empty desert, spending our time chilling in the shade, flying, and eating MREs. Unfortunately, the "base" didn't offer a lot of good running opportunities. Today (our first day) I just ran out to the gate (and looked with yearning at the cars on the main road on the other side) and around a bit on the road.
Friday Oct 12 | ||
| Cycling (road) 22:00 [2] | ||
| Ride in, with a brief stop at the fitness center to pick up my memo for the US Champs. I better be able to go after this all this stuff. | ||
| Cycling (road) 18:00 [2] | ||
| Ride home.
Everyone should wish seabass a happy birthday tomorrow!

| WOG. A little late again, Randy insisted we all just run easy because people were worn out from Sunday + Tuesday and people tend to get hurt in early fall. I was kind of looking forward to some spiffy stuff, but he's probably right, so I ran easy.
There was a fairly new WOGger who didn't know where she was going on the way over to the bike path, or where it went, so I ended up running with her and chatting. I'm usually bad with names, but her name is Shelley (mu middle name), so I'm sure I'll remember. We had a nice, chill jog around the golf course. I managed to talk a lot about orienteering, of course, and she's a yoga instructor, so I got in some good stretching afterwards. ;-) We received J-J's prize for his being the 30000th 'visitor' today. Good stuff, I hope he enjoyed it, too. (And I could hardly taste the bourbon.)
| Strength/Core (stretching) 10:00 [1] | ||
| Stretching after the run. Everyone was in a very social mood, probably because no one felt too beat. | ||
Wednesday Oct 10 | ||
| Cycling (road) 22:00 [2] | ||
| In to work. | ||
| Running (trail) 15:00 [1] 1.36 mi (10:59 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Asics Trail | ||
| Looked like I'd be able to squeeze in a trail run before dark, so seabass picked me up at work and we headed to Sabino Canyon... only things took a little longer than I thought and we got there basically at sunset. Tried to do a loop that went out on trail and back on the road (for the darkness), but after about 2 minutes seabass had to walk. I ran back and forth for a bit, but I was a bit woozy (long day outside? not enough water? moron for a "supervisor"?) so I stopped after 15 min and we both walked back to the car. Oh well, we tried. | ||
| Note | ||
| Okay, as if I don't have to deal with enough things that don't make sense on a daily basis:
I just registered for the upcoming LAOC A-meet online. Or rather, I *thought* it was online registration, but in reality it is a not terribly user-friendly webform that generates a printable form, on which I must calculate my total cost myself (wtf?) and then mail (yes, on paper and via the USPS) with a check. Ridiculous.

Tuesday Oct 9 | ||
| Cycling (road) 40:00 [2] | ||
| In to work.
No contacts today. Or yesterday. Didn't bother trying the day before, either. But I tried the day before that and gave up because I wanted to get down to Box Canyon. Me and contacts aren't happening right now. Boo hiss. ... And home.

| WOG. Thought I wasn't going to be able to go, but I managed to escape work and then seabass dropped me off. Missed most of the warmup running and stretching, but still got in a lap before everyone got back.
Today definitely felt a little more like work. We did 4x1 mile at 10 mile race pace with 600 recovery. I started in a group but eventually just ran with Diane, who claims to be slower (but I don't really believe it). We ran: 7:45, 7:44, 7:46, 7:45, or something very close to that. Pretty consistent, though we weren't quite that solid throughout each mile. And that's it, with a little warm up, 4 strides, and a little cool down. Good workout.
