| Event: Saguaro Lake Deja Vu Score-O | ||
| Running long (trail/road) 1:45:00 | ||
| ahr:173 max:186 weight:147lbs shoes: Asics B&Y | ||
| I had the Phoenix local meet on the schedule for today. Decided this morning that driving all that way for a score-o on a cruddy map really wasn't the best way to spend the day, especially since I'm not feeling very vroomy.
So, seabass and I headed over to Sabino for a run instead. I ran up Phoneline and down the road (!). I had pulled out a water bottle before we left and was going to bring it, but then I figured less than 2 hours running, not very hot (about 70), why would I need water? Of course, that was pretty stupid and I was pretty thirsty on the way down. Wanted to drink from the stream (it was very cold wading through and very tempting) but figured at that point (on the way down) I was close enough to the end not to bother. Very nice run, anyway. The flowers are blooming in full force up there. Lots of people out, except for the last mile or so of Phoneline. And I will definitely bring water next time.

| Okay, seabass and I are going to do this. Six pounds in six weeks is the goal (same for both of us). | ||
| C • Can I join you? 4 | ||
| Note | ||
| Finally put pictures up from the second week in NZ. I wish I'd taken more at the O meets! They're here. | ||
| C • A question 4 | ||
| DDR 15:00 [2] | ||
| Yeah. We were going to go skating, but then time slipped by. As it was we were still late meeting Naugle for dinner. | ||
| Note | ||
| Finally got around to installing QuickRoute. Windows hurts. But QR is neat. Played around with the min/max for the pace colors but not sure what would be the best range. Guess it depends a bit on the terrain. Anyway, here's my first QR map, from Day 1 of the Tucson meet. I think it will be more instructive in trickier terrain. One thing that does come through on this map is how very slowly I go uphill.
Altitude function isn't useful unless there's a way to make it go over 1000m...? And the HR stuff doesn't strike me as useful for me, since I seem to work over such a small range. Anyway, plenty of time for more playing...
Friday Mar 7 | ||
| Running (track) 16:30 [1] 1.5 mi (10:59 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Gus | ||
| Squadron PT. I was sort of grouchy (as usual) but I had Rob lead the session and it was okay. We did some stretching, crunches, and pushups and then lined up for a "last airman up" run around the track. I wasn't excited because I like Friday's to be easy, and sprinting up the line over and over again didn't seem like it would be easy... but we had to move so slowly to keep everyone together that it was like a nice recovery run with some pickups. | ||
| Other Cardio (ultimate) 21:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Gus | ||
| Then we played some ultimate, and it wasn't nearly as bad as some earlier games, mostly because most of the mean jocks weren't there. I also discovered that my forehand is pretty weak these days. I used to be able to play this game... | ||

| Ooh, we got an article on the D-M website. http://www.dm.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123088859
It was the main photo/headline yesterday, but I guess news moves fast...

| Running intervals (road) 1:06:00 | ||
| shoes: Gus | ||
| WOG, completely sans Randy, which meant a very short and non-entertaining stretch/warmup and maybe more people wimping out on the harder workout than usual. The Tuesday workout was 3x1 mile (probably good that I couldn't make it, it wouldn't have been pretty) so today was either the same or 8-10x 1 min hard/1 min easy. Most people were tired from Tuesday and opted for the minutes. I didn't really want to do the miles on my own and wasn't sure they'd feel good. Then one of the guys I recognized as being a little faster than me (Andy) said, "I'll do miles if someone will do them with me". He said he'd already run 9 miles and would probably do 7:15s, which sounded just fine.
-~10 min warmup (reverse Viola loop) - 4 x strides - 3x1 mile w/ 3 min easy: 7:04, 7:06, 7:08 (yeah, a little faster than advertised...) And then we finished up with a cooldown lap around the golf course and some interesting conversation about work and academia and teaching, etc. Turns out we have vaguely similar jobs, as he's an engineer who works with the navigation system on missiles or something over my head like that. Anyway, by the book I'd say that the miles were not really fast enough to be intervals, but I sure couldn't have run that last one much faster. I guess that means it wasn't a bad workout. Felt good.

| Early afternoon run at Saguaro East. Seabass came too but she realized when we arrived that she had forgotten her shoes. Turned out ok, she was a little low anyway, so she just walked in her sandles. Then I discovered that my FR's battery was dead and neither of us had a watch... And we had to watch the time so I could get to work. So... I borrowed her shuffle and estimated time based on song length. Not a bad music selection, except for all the country songs I had to skip.
We looked briefly for barb's bike lock key. No luck. Still feeling pretty beat up from the weekend. That's pretty amazing. I think it's best if I skip the road race this weekend and just do some casual o.

Tuesday Mar 4 | ||
| Running (road/dirt) 36:00 | ||
| shoes: Gus | ||
| Mid-day run from home. It was nice and sunny but not hot (about 70), which is a nice change from the weekend's early spring warmth. Walked and ran with seabass to the bike path, then we went in opposite directions so that we could run our own paces. Caught up to her at the top left corner and ran a bit but then she just wanted to walk back. I scurried home so I could catch a shower and lunch before work.
The u-lock was indeed hers. This is a reminder to tell the story of why Joe asked me why I keep a rock hammer in my car at the A meet.

| Cycling (road) 22:00 [2] | ||
| Ride in. A little sore still and quite tired. Going to be a long day.
I had some trouble leaving the house today. I kept forgetting stuff and having to unlock the door and go back in. First it was a bike lock, then it was clean undies, then it was mail I had to send, and so on. I was finally all set to go and tried to get on my bike and realized that Gabe had left the seat really high when he was here (shows how long it's been since I've ridden it...). So, back in to get a tool to lower the seat and finally off. Before lunch I went to get a haircut at the BX and pulled out my bike lock, which turned out to be not actually my lock since my key didn't work. I must have grabbed Melissa's instead. Luckily there seems not to be much bike thievery on base, as it survived outside for the duration of the cut and a long stop at the Wing. Tried to pick up and pay for a bunch of uniform items for the squadron only to see that they had a power outage and couldn't do anything. Then I got pinged for a urinalysis. Again. It's almost too bad that I have nothing to hide, might be a quick way out of the AF if I did. Came back and wanted to flight plan for tomorrow's flight but the power's out in that building, too. All in all, a very productive day. Love it. (Your tax dollars at work!)

| Cycling (road) 20:00 [2] | ||
| Ride home. I had two u-locks in my bag. I'm a doofus.
But not as much of a doofus as the AF sports people who are thinking about sending people who have *never* orienteered before to an international competition.
| C • Sounds perfectly reasonable to me 6 | ||
| Strength/Core 40:00 [2] | ||
| This was tougher than usual. I guess I'm still tired from Ragnar. Or I'm just weak. And chubby. | ||
