Cycling (Road) 1:00:00 [1]

Easy ride on rented hybrids with Melissa (and Chuck, until he turned around for lack of sunblock) in Avalon. We rode to the next town up and had lunch, then back to the library. Fun and relaxing and nice to be doing some exercise.

I was going to ride without a brace but thought better of it and wore it. Actually, I had mental images of slamming my foot down funny and hurting it all over again, so it was a decision based on fear, not on common sense. It was almost too bad that I put it on, because my ankle felt so secure that I practically danced down the stairs and did some fakes at the bottom, just because I could. And so of course I was thinking, "I could totally orienteer next weekend!" which is not something I should be thinking.

So far so good.

Strength/Core 10:00 [2]

Some balance and movement stuff as well as a tiny bit of core work. Travel day, had some yummy pizza at Sandy's.

Hmph, ankle hurts a lot more this morning than it did yesterday. How depressing.

This sucks.

Strength/Core (ankle stuff) 5:00 [1]

Just a wee bit of balance and motion, testing it out.

No problems, so I'll keep it up.

Running (water) 31:30 [2]

I've been thinking of incorporating this whole water running/aquajogging thing into my training for a while, and having a week or two of being prevented from running seems to have been the perfect impetus to actually go out and try it. Surprisingly, it was approximately a thousand times less boring than I thought it would be.

I seem to have some coordination issues that I hope will work out over a few sessions. Mainly, I can't get into a groove of harder effort. Part of the problem is also that both ends of the lap lanes are shallow, so I can only really use the middle part, back and forth, so it's hard to get going and keep it up.

It would also help to have some waterproof iPod thing. I mean, it's less boring than a treadmill, but not by *that* much.

Went to the doc today, just for giggles. He wanted x-rays since he was concerned that my ankle was still tender. Seems like overkill (more of that docs doing more than they should stuff, I guess) and they showed nothing interesting, as I expected. Didn't have much concrete advice about how to tell when I could start doing stuff and how much or what else to do to ensure a great recovery. So, as soon as the swelling is gone and it doesn't hurt to do so I will go for an easy run.

Travel day back to Tucson from Portland. I was done with work related stuff early enough this morning to make it back to the hotel in time for (a second) breakfast, which gave me plenty of time to work more on updating the Sprint Series Standings. The good news: about 50 sprint results processed in the last couple of days. The bad news: there are more! I expect to post an update tomorrow.

My only exercise today consisted of walking from the hotel to Powell's Books and back. And, of course, walking around the store itself. ;-)

Wow, a thousand times better this morning than yesterday! I got out of bed and stood up without shrieking! In fact, it's just uncomfortable and slightly swollen today, so I imagine I will be able to put my boots on. :-)
