To and from Lisa & Peter's with Lukas sitting in back. On the way there we looped around a bunch to catch sight of Melissa who was running there.

A little trot. It took a lot of effort to get out the door for this. I am just exhausted.

Cycling (road) 15:00 [1] 3.5 km (14.0 kph)

Another beautiful, summery day in Oslo. A while back I bought a bike seat for Lukas only to discover that it wouldn't work on my mountain bike. Fits okay on my road bike but that wasn't as appealing (or useful) for riding around with him. They've finally cleaned the streets around here and it seemed like a good day to try it out. He loved it! We just tooled around the neighborhood, and then Melissa got on my other bike and we all went to the store together. Going uphill is certainly more work with an extra 35lbs on the back.

The day also included setting up our big tent in the yard (our actual yard, not Nordmarka -- with the rain fly on it takes up basically the entire thing), having a visit from Emily and baby, and then sleeping in the tent. No problem falling asleep but Lukas and Melissa retreated to the house at 3am due partially to a miscalculation on my part concerning sleeping bags and temperatures. Ooops.

Went for a run from work at the end of the day, nabbing all the Stolpejakten controls in the central part of the city.

I am tired. Some of it is just busy days, some of it is probably all the pollen.

Note

Constitution Day, and also day one of a five day stretch with Lukas at home. Thankfully a good forecast for the whole weekend.

Melissa actually had to work a bit this morning (proctoring an exam) so Lukas and I started our celebrations alone. First we headed outside to watch the local school marching band go by, then we headed into the local woods to find some treasure (posts for Stolpejakten). He was pretty into finding the posts and surprisingly not very interested in scanning the QR code with my phone. We went farther than I had planned because he wanted to keep going and find another.

Then we headed downtown to see more bands and get Lukas some ice cream (traditionally kids are allowed to eat as much ice cream as they want on the 17th) before meeting up with Melissa and Martha (also proctoring) and the rest of Martha's fam for more celebrating. A nice way to spend our "last" 17th, appropriately with the same people as our first seven years ago, only this time with three additional family members.

Note

Just bought one-way tickets so I think that makes it pretty official: the Trout/Luis clan is moving back to the US this July.

Very excited to move to Cambridge and start work as Executive Director of Navigation Games. Melissa is still looking for a job, so if you know any place that needs a math teacher or a diabetes educator, hit us up!

In to work. Amazing what a difference it makes to leave after rush hour. Also, apparently today is summer.
