Welp, felt worse today, lots of drippiness and some sinus pressure (new!). Primary goal for the day was to keep my effort reasonable to keep from being sick forever, secondary just to finish the course in a reasonable time. With a sizable lead in F35 there was no need to rush.

Short warmup, did trot around to look at the cave, though.

Masters Nationals Day 2

Not as clean today, and I had bad execution of a bad route choice on the long leg that I was kicking myself about as soon as it was too late to be worthwhile to change my mind. Even so, I had fun. The course and terrain today were a bit more interesting in that there was more variety in both terrain style and in leg lengths. It was also not as ridiculously steep and I certainly missed being able to run hard a lot more today than I did yesterday.

Managed to punch all the controls in the right order and secure the win in F35 on my 40th birthday.

I felt much better today that I did the past few days. I guess sleeping far away from even the idea of being woken up by a 3yo is good for my immune system. Still not well but a lot better!

Kentucky!

I went with a plan of hiking the ups and attempting to jog the flats and downs, which was probably not much different from anyone else's plans, given the terrain. There was a lot of hiking but I tried to keep moving with a sense of purpose and the orienteering went well. Beautiful day, nice terrain.

Spent all afternoon yesterday in bed. Seems like it's just a cold but I am pretty out of it today. I think this weekend is going to be more social than competitive. Since I'm old and running green there's still the possibility that I could hike the courses and not be out all day. Definitely still going, though, as Kentucky is one of the few states I have never been to!

Trails in Weston on the way home. I had Orocs with me in case it was slippery icy but it was okay with Mudclaws -- most of the ice was crunchy frozen slush and had plenty of grip. My body, however, did not want to cooperate. After maybe 15 minutes of running I had that body shutdown feeling that I thought only happened while skiing. I don't know what it is but I had to stop and rest, and then walk for a while, and then I jogged lethargically back to the car so I could make sure to be back home in time to pick up Lukas. It's weird and I don't like it.

I have had these Mudclaws for a long time (2013) but have barely worn them because there doesn't seem to be a niche for them amongst all my other shoes. And, it turns out, they are really big. They are actually a half size smaller than most of my other Inov8s but still are ridiculously large on my feet. Also weird.

Easy afternoon Comm Ave. loop, with 5 or 6 x 15sec.

I had not had anything to eat or drink in the three hours preceding this run and yet still had the inklings of a stitch for most of the run. Also, legs felt really unghhh but I think that's partially the river path effect. "Oh look, I'm running to that bridge... way over there... yep, still running to that bridge... why is that bridge still so far... this is terrible...", etc.
