EM Champs @ Birchen Edge

Really decent area. Understandably didn't feel the best aerobically but strength wise felt reasonable. Technically though I was really poor through the first 10 losing considerable up to a minute on several controls. Pretty clean after that though. Dane B caught me between 13 and 15 and slowly pulled away to 19. He was ahead a good minute but re-caught him at 23. Not sure why I was so poor before 10 and clean after it. Think the slow running/cold was playing on my mind and Dane catching me refocused me. I've been technically quite poor this year and need to sort it out.

Another panic to get to the race after someone blocked my car in but just about made it.

Really enjoyed this one. Some time loss early on at 12 and 15 and then towards the end on 4 but bagged the lot with 11mins to spare, could have been a lot healthier though.

I have given these shoes plenty of chances but they really aren't comfortable. I'm sure the cushioning is provided by reinforced concrete. Ankles and feet battered by the end. Went straight in the bin before I had chance to change my mind. Really like inov8 O and fell shoes but their cushioning system in the more trail/road shoes is crap.

Matlock Urban race.

More enjoyable than another run from home. Pretty physical, technically some tricky legs but many quite straight forward. Nature of the area. Technically I was pretty rusty at the start but improved as the race progressed.

Brown course at Thoresby

Main error was trusting the vegetation 16-17. Stuck in head high bracken and brambles with white forest on the map. Lost 1:45-2 mins here. Otherwise, I think I lost 1 min on the long leg by missing the path I wanted so running further, overshot 10 and a couple of small bearing errors at the end. Some parts of the forest a quite nice, others terrible. Could do with the bracken being down a bit more.

Robin Hood Red Bull

Pack split almost from the start and was on my own from shortly after 3. Realised soon after I wasn't going to get them all and worked out which ones I could potentially drop. In the end I dropped the four at the far south west end and the one on its own towards the east. Nailed 5 out of 6 challenges. No way I was going to do the balance beam, pleasantly surprised to scale the 3m rope, bullseye on first arrow in archery, and just squeezed the last onion through the hole on the final sling shot - that was the difference between getting the podium and not. 2nd place overall. Think I got most controls but Jamie (1st) and Ben (3rd) I think both completed all challenges. With better planning I could have picked up one or two more controls but was well planned by Andy and difficult to work out how many you could feasibly get.
