Note
weight:182lbs

Weight is down, probably just temporary, but I'll take it.

Body held up well this weekend. No real pains, just aches.

Orienteering race (Flying Pig Long) 2:51:21 [4] *** 7.8 km (21:58 / km) +320m 18:14 / km
shoes: Ice Bugs Men's Blue 8.5

Slow but (fairly) clean until I got near #2 the second time (my route choice on the long leg to #10), then I lost my mind, and ~35 minutes lost the rest of the way to #10 & from 10-11 when I finally relocated from a distance campground loop.

The mud, as evidenced on my clothes, was very Pig worthy today.

Fun weekend!

Tracks - Looking at this, I realize that I had forgotten about going the little side trip between 2 & 3. Though I was quite proud of myself for stopping and sorting myself out when I did.

From 9-10, things go fine enough until I get back to #2, and then I executed a nice "loop de loop." Though 10-11 was actually worse, and very disheartening, but I finally realized that I hadn't hit the creek, and headed that way, and then up to the campground was necessary to relocate...

Tracks say I did about 8 miles.

Orienteering race (Flying Pig Sprint 1) 21:00 [5] *** 2.3 km (9:08 / km)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

Again, I wasn't watching the starters ahead of me, even though their route was visible to me, and I felt somewhat foolish when my compass said to go left, but left was across the road. Settled in after that, though lost steam at the end. Lots of fun.

Orienteering race (Flying Pig Sprint 2) 21:15 [4] *** 2.1 km (10:07 / km)
shoes: Saucony Blue 4

A beautiful day, though somewhat muddy, but that was kind of fun. No real errors. Finally beat the woman who has started ahead of me the last two events. Third US eligible in F50 and 4th overall (12 seconds behind 3rd overall, and 5-6 minutes behind 1st and 2nd).

Got to fiddle with some epunching, but it was nice to walk off without a care in the world. :)

Nice dinner with Tom and Lisa.

O Training (Flying Pig Model) 26:00 [2] *** 1.6 km (16:15 / km)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

Light rain, plenty muddy. Green but NO thorns!

Trail Run (To Middle Start) 19:00 [2] 1.2 mi (15:50 / mi)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

Weird getting ready for this event since I had SO much time with nothing to do but to get ready. ~.75 miles along a busy road - got tooted at by a semi-truck driver whereas the cadets ahead of me did not. :)

Orienteering race (Flying Pig Middle) 44:51 [4] *** 3.7 km (12:07 / km) +120m 10:26 / km
shoes: Ice Bugs - Red Storm

Almost a perfect race for me with 1 minute lost securing an epunch to a stand that the adapter had broken on. It was in the mud. After trying to untie the very securely tied bag in order to use the end of the string, I settled on my clue sheet holder. Hopefully, I will get it back.

Another minute or so at another control, but mostly I was just running out of steam. My performance index went from 115 down to 57% during the course of the race.

I didn't fall into the mud, but I was muddy for sure.

Dumb injury of the day - after coming off of the course unscathed, I was getting into my car tonight and banged below my knee on the shin bone on the dashboard. I was doing some swearing.

Last week I had terrible pain in my left toe for several hours. So painful I couldn't put weight on it, and then it just disappeared. And today I noticed that the same toe on the other foot is going to lose a toenail. Not sure if a 10 mile trail run followed by 10 more miles of orienteering a couple of weeks ago is worthy of losing a toe, but it has to be from that.

Finally, the OCIN Epunch team allowed me some computer time, so I didn't have to go cold turkey.
