Orienteering race (Great Falls MD Adv) 1:16:02 [4] *** 5.3 km (14:21 / km) +140m 12:40 / km
shoes: Ice Bugs Men's Blue 8.5

What a tough day! Except for the fact that I saw Barb B, oh so briefly, that was excellent!

No sleep last night - nightmare, thought someone was downstairs. Probably the water running through heating pipes, creepy - my heart was racing.

Finally crawled out of bed at 6:15, shower, banana, off to time race. Cold, so very cold, but I was in my van (The O Mobile). Timing went well, and a check (real money) will be in the mail by mid-week.

Off to Great Falls, MD next for O meet. Wind picking up, getting colder. Arrive right at the busiest time. Force my way in, move the other van, set my van up, finish the last of the registrations, get someone to download, and get Heidi and me out on a course. No plan for the long legs - "I'll go straight and find them." Did not work too well, but I got done.

Did I mention that I saw Barb? Barb, you do know that you are always welcome to stay with in our guest room?! We are close to DC!

Oh, and it was cold today. Maybe not PT cold, but cold.

O Training (Control pickup) 30:00 [1] 1.2 mi (25:00 / mi)
shoes: Ice Bugs Men's Blue 8.5

Picked up controls. Even colder and windier than earlier.
Nailed them all. Was not the last one back. Yeah!!

Mowing/Yard (Leaf vacuum) 10:00 [0]

Pushed the leaf vacuum around for a long time. Well, at least it seemed like a long time. That sucker gets heavier and heavier each year. Our leaves are not all down, so this isn't the last time either.

Note

An aborted attempt at THE DVD last night - no sound coming from my computer. So, instead of going to the dvd player in the other room, I got sidetracked trying to figure out the sound issue. Then dinner was ready, so still no sound, and no workout either.

I have three major collections in my home - hallmark ornaments, stamps, and quilts/fabric. Lately, the thought of these collections has become a bit overwhelming.

I have no interest in the ornaments anymore at all, though I will probably keep a few of my favorites. Maybe if I had just a few, I would appreciate them more. The collecting became an obsession. I HAD TO HAVE them. I was poor and coveted the ornaments, so when I could afford them I bought almost all of them every year. Then I filled it some of the earlier years as well. I didn't buy them for any future value, so I don't care really how much I get for them. The amount of closet space they are taking up is ridiculous.

The second collection is the stamps (US only). I started this one after I married Roger and discovered all of the stamps he had hoarded. He would buy a bunch of new stamps, but he would only use a couple of them. I started filling in the blanks, and putting them in albums. I worked backwards, and I also bought all of the new ones. Now, they have to go! I could start using them for postage, but I don't really mail that much anymore... I do like the mint set books which my mother gave me Christmas each year, so I may keep those.

That brings me to the fabric/quilts. Again, no half measure for me. I call the ton of fabric my "retirement plan." Over a 10 year period, I sewed 100+ quilts. And then I didn't anymore. I have started and finished a handful of quilts over the last five years, and I have been working on a T-Shirt quilt this last month. I think I have the desire to sew more again (and do less internet), even though my hands and eyes are protesting a bit. But, the quilts I still have need to go to good homes first, because I can't bear seeing them just sitting in a pile anymore. When I think about starting or finishing a project, I look at the pile, and I wonder what I am going to do with another quilt, and then I stop.

Biking (Commute) 51:00 [1] 9.5 mi (5:22 / mi)
weight:184lbs shoes: Shimano Bike

Figured that I had to face what less than 50 F felt like, so I got my butt to work on my bike today. Wanting to try out my new tights and jacket helped my motivation.

It was 35 F this morning. Overdressed going in - short sleeve tight UA, two long sleeve shirts, and jacket. Could have done with just one long sleeve. Light hat, gloves, and tights. One pair of heavier (for me) socks. Only real issue was eyes were watering.

For my two trips to the central office, I was in my work clothes - a cotton turtleneck and the jacket. Top was fine, but I was a little chilly in my rolled up jeans.

It was 43 F coming home, and I went with one less LS shirt. I was sweating when I got home.
