Note

So, yesterday when I finished my course, Max (almost 5) was "manning" the epunch computer, and Alexis (5) was directing people to download. After I downloaded, Max printed out a set of overall results. Peggy told him not to do that after each person, and I laughed and said that I had bought 50 rolls of the receipt paper, so I wasn't concerned.

I asked Max if he was pushing the green button before he printed the results (to refresh the report), and he insisted that yes, he was, while in the same breath asking what green button. So, I showed him, and maybe next time there won't be 15 strips of the same exact results printed out and stacked on a nearby table. Or maybe there will be, and I won't care because Max was bonding with the epunch computer, and, so I might have an assistant in the making (and I bought 50 rolls of the receipt paper).

Still smiling over this one.

EX2 Adventures Race Timing: BYB Wakefield

Rainy start to the day, but with only 322/512 runners starting, this race was a little easier to manage than usual. Sarah and Matt did not show up.

Orienteering race (Pohick Bay) 1:15:10 [3] *** 4.5 km (16:42 / km) +150m 14:19 / km
shoes: 8 Orange

Most trouble with #6, since I couldn't believe that I had to drop down off this ledge to get to the spur. Otherwise, worked on my compass reading when I was not actually running on trails. Though, one time I was running the incorrect direction on a trail, and the compass actually helped there as well, once I believed what I was seeing. Go figure.

I had a lot going against me at that point - last starter about 30 minutes after the previous starter, rained almost all day, been up early to do the other event, general fatigue. Then I thought about what maprunner wrote yesterday, as I was experiencing total frustration finding #6, and I decided I would follow her fine example. And, I finished up fairly well.

A good day, even it it was a bit damp.

Running/Walking (4 Mile loop) 44:50 [2] 4.0 mi (11:13 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1223

Almost lazed the whole day away, and I wasn't going to beat myself up over it either - slept until 9 AM (11 hours), got up printed the rest of the maps for tomorrow and fiddled around a little, spent quality time with Roger (2.5 hour nap), got up and ate lunch (Fritos, cheese dip, and half a cream puff), loaded the car for tomorrow.

No time left to go somewhere for a trail run, and it was really too close to when I had eaten that nutritous lunch, but I felt like doing something, and we know I don't get those feelings often. So I decided to see if I could run my 4 mile loop without hurling. It was a little close at the end, but I managed. Nasty at about 90% humidity and 70 F.

Ran a mile (943), walked .15 (200), ran mile (1015), walked .25 (350), ran mile (1000), walked .60 (902).

Since October 5, the day that war was declared on the funk, I have run 6 times, and I am feeling better each time I do this loop, though I know my knees probably won't be too happy tomorrow.

Running/Walking 1:00:00 [2] 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
shoes: Aqua Velvet

Not the workout I intended to do on the day I intended to do it, but I'll take it.

I had already taken leave from work this afternoon for another purpose which had fallen through, so I went for a run, and then a walk, and another run, and then another walk.

Two miles run (957 1020), .4 mile walk (614), 1 mile run (1004), 1.6 mile walk (2340).

The first 4 miles were faster then a couple of weeks ago. Lungs were not as painful starting out, so some sort of progress, I guess.
