O Training 1:15:00 [2] *** 2.6 mi (28:50 / mi)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Green

Too tired to walk upstairs and find my FR, so I will guesstimate for now...

Started out about 9 AM to put out the Beginner course and 2 advanced controls. Snow was shallow and frozen - very nice conditions, though the trails probably deteriorated as they warmed up later in the day. Ice Bugs were great today, where they were not gripping well yesterday.

Labored over a couple of control locations (always find this happens on the easiest courses), and I also missed the fact that a circle was not on the trail junction (control description) which is where I hung the control. This actually didn't affect anyone really except the one DNF (mother and daughter) of the day who were actually looking for the control further down the trail past the junction where the circle was drawn. I wished I had had the 1:5000 and not the 1:10000 with me, since I probably would have caught the printing. Oh, well, they when away not too concerned and plan to come back.

Nice easy loop with some running and some Ovangelism along the way (stopped 5 times and chatted). Got back a little later then I had planned and ran to the car only to find someone in the driver's seat about to drive off with it (Thank you , Heidi!).

After a little negotiation, we got the O Mobile in place and set up. I had no plans to go out anymore today, so relieved Heidi, and I was going to be happy to settle in and take care of the few people I expected to show up. How wrong was I? 120 starts, with 20 of them pre-registered. So, it was hopping all day, and that was fine too.

And, then if was done. Very sore from the sitting, and the huge split I did yesterday near the end.

Note

Nice dinner with Matt and Sarah last night.

Then a difficult hour of coughing and breathing difficulties made worse by sobbing because I was coughing and having difficulty breathing. Finally knocked back some expired cough medicine and fell asleep.

O Training (GF controls) 2:45:00 [2] *** 6.59 mi (25:02 / mi)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Green

Tim delivered the control units to me last night - Thank you, Tim! So, today I went about setting the electronic controls out for tomorrow's QOC meet. Nadim is the course setter, and I offered to hand boxes to alleviate the conflict of Disneyland (Happy 5th B'Day Max!) and an A-meet in LA this weekend.

Got to the park and out into the woods at 8:15 AM. Did one big loop from the Tavern, preferring to park in the park and make things all legal like. Had 25 control units in my pack.

Rain for the first hour, then it turned to frozen rain, and then it turned to snow. A good cover throughout by the time I was finished. Took things nice and slow and knocked out all but one control which is near enough to the Beginner course to put it out tomorrow. Had a few bobbles, one fairly large one near the end as I was getting tired. I did manage to nail my nemesis today thanks to Nadim having the bags out for me to find.

I had to move 140 to a very vague reentrant ~200 meters away from the original location, but I am pretty sure I found it OK based on my GPS tracking. Between being pooped and the footing, I didn't run a step. Thirty minutes subtracted from total time for stoppage, though it was probably more.

Met Dave at Old Angeler's to pick up the meet kit since I don't have to race time tomorrow, so I will take early shift (or all shifts) at the O meet.

Clara Barton PKWY was closed, so I did detour to Cabin John to get on 495, but after that it was clear sailing, at least in my direction. A nice, GW PKWY closing accident in the other direction.

Took a while to warm up my core when I got home.

Now waiting to see if Sarah and Matt are still coming to dinner.

Note

Stayed home from work today - breathing better this afternoon because my cough is deeper. Did a dumb thing and raked leaves in the afternoon for a couple of hours.

Have a cold. Lungs hurt.

Note
weight:184lbs

OK, one day home and I am the same weight as I was when I left town. Yesterday, I was 186 (+2), but that doesn't count, or at least, I am not going to count it.

I had fully intended to run today so that I wouldn't have three 0 days in a row, but it wasn't to be, mostly for lame reasons/excuses.

So, I will try for a better rest of the week:

Wednesday - do something! Run at least the four mile loop, or a variation of it, since it will be too dark for the actual loop through the park.
Thursday - core DVD
Friday - off
Saturday - hang controls at GFMD
Sunday - orienteering course, or a trail run at Hemlock before race timing
