Orienteering race (Short Stumble) 2:29:48 [3] *** 8.54 km (17:32 / km) +370m 14:25 / km
shoes: Pink Ice Bugs #2

Actual distance from FR 310 XT = 7.4 miles (~12 km) with 367 m of climb.

More to follow, but the short version is that Sandy nailed this course with assistance from Heidi, and next to nothing from me. Heck, I am just happy that they waited for me at the end!

About three controls from the end, I did one of those almost fell on my face things, but made a recovery before falling to the ground. Unfortunately, I pulled my right groin, or wrenched my back. Right now, 6 hours later, my hip is killing me. On the ride home, it was the butt. Thank goodness for heater seats.

Anyway, I thought that the faster women (Kathleen, Ginger and Dasha) would had finished well ahead of us, and after getting through the hard stuff, my goal was breaking 2:30. Did that with a smidgeon to spare, but it turned out that the trio of Sandy, Heidi and I were first women in the Short and 9th overall, besting a bunch of men as well.

A beautiful day to be in the woods, and though my original plan was to do this event by myself, I was tickled to have toured the course with two good friends, and to get the "win"!!. Thank you!

O Training (Control pickup) 20:00 [2] *** 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Red Fish

Sandy and I offered to pick up the control window of EFGHI, but, in the absence of Eddie/Randy, there was not a quick decision available of when that could be done, and Sandy was getting cold, and my feet were screaming for different shoes. So, I said we wouldn't. But, then, about an hour later, Amy and Trish (someone twisted her arm) were heading out to those controls, and no offense to either of these women, but a couple of these were too difficult to be retrieving in the waning light by Orange+ navigators.

So, I went out with Amy, and we split things up, parking in two different places. I screwed up the most difficult control (E) having approached it from a different direction from the way we got it earlier. The second one (G) was easier, once I realized I had to go up and down. Back to the O Mobile with the control, a gallon of water, and the water control trash, not too long after Amy arrived.

Back to the S/F and home with just a little slow traffic here and there.

A very good day. Happy that I didn't veg out at home, despite the parts which are letting me know that I abused them today.

Walking (the Dog) 35:00 [1] 2.0 mi (17:30 / mi)
slept:8.0 weight:183lbs shoes: Red Fish

Walked the neighbor's dog, Pumpkin, the pug. The name is the first thing that has to go when she becomes mine. She is about 6-7 months old, and the neighbor got her so he would get some exercise. Turns out the neighbor had to be brought back home by two other neighbors after falling when Pumpkin got tangled up around him. This guy is unsteady on his feet, as well as lazy, so today dog was tied up out front for two hours on a 3' leash and hasn't been walked in over a week. Since I haven't been walked in almost a week myself, it was a win-win situation made Perfect by the fact that it didn't crap on my watch. Oh, right, I dry heave when picking up dog poop, that is why I don't have a dog. Well, that and the whole allergy thing...

She walked pretty well for a young dog, and even ran a good bit. I went through the park, and she was very curious about the other dogs, but she was well behaved. When we were done, I went for the photo op and got a little nip on the nose. She didn't like being held at all. She is not a lap dog. But, she did make me smile and got me outside on this beautiful day.

Hah! I was able to recover my Night and Middle tracks from the FR. I guess I will hold off getting the 910xt for a while longer. :)
