Event: QOC Jug Bay

Note

QOC's last event of the 2011-12 season. The Beer Chase, though we kind of avoid the mention of the alcohol tie in now. In the olden days, there was actually separate results for beer vs. non-beer.

Mass start at noon - drink a beer, or a beverage of your choice, do a loop, drink, loop, drink, loop, finish. Some classic stories from this event, like the year that you had to do 3 controls in a window in any order, and M S-W kept going in and out of the window not sure if she had completed the task correctly. Turns out she hadn't - MP.

There is another story of almost fisticuffs which involved me and my need to defend my beer guzzling prowess. Turns out I can throw back a beer faster then almost anyone else, and if you have to cheat to be faster, like drinking before you punch in, then I will declare you a cheater to your face, and your wife will have to intervene. Not my finest moment.

I really wasn't feeling up to going out on a course when the time came, so I worked the results/download for the duration instead. A surprisingly large numbers of race day registrations - 80 pre-reg and 45 more race-day.

I did demonstrate my beer chugging talent once, and once was enough.

Anyway, it was a lovely day on the water with no thunderstorms to contend with. Francis set some compact courses with minimal controls, and everything was picked up and in the O'mobile by 4 PM. Even with the baseball traffic, I was home and unloaded by 5 PM.

And, another fine QOC comes to the end. Thanks to all for a great year!

Biking 1:16:00 [1] 13.49 mi (5:38 / mi) +87m 5:31 / mi
shoes: Bike Sandals

My woodpecker started up at 6:08, and it didn't respond to my encouragement to move along, so I got out of bed a few hours earlier then planned.

After much hemming and hawing, Roger got me out the door, and I am pretty grateful. The annual beginning of the bike season picture:

The bike trail (path) was reasonably empty...a few training groups, bikes, and a camera shy duck:

This dead tree caught my eye. From this angle, it is just a dead tree.

From the opposite angle...perhaps a bit more interesting.

A very pleasant ride. Well, except for the usual hill at the end, but I sucked it up, and made it to the top. Hopefully, it will get easier again.

Followed up the ride with some weed pulling, time with Roger including a long nap, and a 60th birthday party with lots of wine. A good day.

No PT today, but I am sore enough that I don't feel too badly about that.

Note

This sucker has been playing "rooster" outside my bedroom window starting at 6-6:30 AM the last three weeks... I set up my video camera on the deck before sunrise this morning to catch it in the act.

If you have the sound up loud, after the third round of calls, you can hear another one in answer. Mating?

Misc warm up/down (PT with Mike) 1 [0]

An all out session with Mike.
10 AM

Biking 32:00 [1] 6.69 mi (4:47 / mi) +15m 4:45 / mi

Home after PT to pick up the bike and ride to work. The AC isn't working at the office (no surprise!), so I figured I may as well arrive all sweaty instead of sitting sound and getting pissed off because I was getting sweaty for no reason.
3 PM

Biking 30:57 [1] 5.35 mi (5:47 / mi) +32m 5:41 / mi
shoes: Bike Sandals

Ride home. Wind was brutal the whole way.

Walking 5:48 [1] 0.48 mi (12:05 / mi) +30m 10:07 / mi
shoes: Bike Sandals

Had to walk up half of the hill home. Nothing left in the tank.

Biking (Ride to work.) 31:00 [1] 6.64 mi (4:40 / mi) +13m 4:38 / mi
shoes: Bike Sandals

Rode to work today. I guess I will have to ride home as well then.
3 PM

Biking 30:00 [1] 5.4 mi (5:33 / mi)
shoes: Bike Sandals

Session data was eaten by my watch, but these numbers are sort of close. Rounded the corner to approach the hill, only to find a work crew repaving the area. Either put up or shut up, so I made my way up the hill. I sounded horrible by the time I made it to the top, but I didn't stop. Yay for me!
