Event: QOC Wheaton
8 AM

Y - EX2 BYB #1 - Laurel Hill - 9 AM

Trail race timing went well except for the pesky problem of not being able to set my PC time to race time. Everyone's time was 3:30 too much, but it is all fixed now. People were happy to see me back "full time" for 2016. I was happy to be back as well.
1 PM

Orienteering race (Wheaton Green) 56:31 [3] *** 4.5 km (12:34 / km) +70m 11:39 / km

Garmin 3.26 miles 67.5m climb

I WON a split!! AND I beat some people, AND I had a great time out in the woods!

There were almost 200 starts, handled admirably by Team Amy, Tori and Valerie. Thanks also to the Campbell family for accepting the results display equipment at 7:30 this morning, and getting it deployed at the event.

Oh, and someone wrote this in their log:
These 5 QOC winter events have been my lifeline during an otherwise heavy emotional time. I think that Quantico has the best local events that I have seen in the US. A meet almost every week even in the winter. Great forest venues, good maps, terrific course setting, superb automated organization. Not to mention the many happy, friendly people. I am thankful.

So, I initially said - It was a good day. After reading that, I am upgrading. It was a VERY good day!

Biking 43:24 [2] 8.05 mi (5:23 / mi) +32m 5:20 / mi

Looped around the neighborhood since I didn't want to go down the hill. Felt so slow! Half the time into the wind. Mountain bike, so I guess when I ride my other bike, I will feel super speedy, maybe.
4 PM

Running (Treadmill) 24:30 [2] 2.0 mi (12:15 / mi)

First mile in 1235, then walked 2 minutes, and then sped up some more to end up with a negative split. Tasting copper after I came inside from the bike ride, but the warm inside air helped relieve the pain fairly quickly.

Walking warm up/down 5:00 [1] 0.33 mi (15:09 / mi)

Cool down

Swimming 1:00:00 [1]

To the pool...did the first 16 laps (400 yards) as fast as I could, trying to make the turns snake like. Clocked at 8:25. Swam about 10 minutes more and then did another 400 in 8:15. Happy with the effort.

Registered for the race. All drama about what to put for swim time was removed since they asked you to round to closest minute. I went with 8.

It was a good day for estate paperwork to be resolved. Three positive things happened, which pared my list down quite a bit. Special kudos to Sheena at my mother's retirement plan for helping me to finally resolve how to get the missing 1099s. Her co-workers failed me the other three times I called over the last six weeks.

I have updated my log to show that I am going back to timing most of the EX2 races in 2016.
12 PM

So, kissy signed up for a tri, and that started me thinking about whether I could do one or not. I am not sure if I should be thanking or cursing her for putting a bug in my ear :), but I think I will sign up for this event -

Ladies only - 400m swim, 8 mile mostly flat bike, 2 mile run

If I am ever to do a tri, this seems like the best fit - lots of different sized ladies, on every type of bike, etc. Only concern is the snake swim, but if I keep up the good work in the pool, I can justify entering with a low swim seed and that would keep me out of most of the swim mess.

I think I will give it a try!

Swimming 1:00:00 [1]

A leisurely breakfast with aunt Nora, and then off to Baltimore to drop her off. Then to the pool. Low battery warning on shuffle about 5 minutes in, and then it lasted another 35, so last 20 was just me and my loud breathing to listen to.
