Swimming 30:30 [1] 1.37 km (22:16 / km)
weight:180lbs

Monday-Friday of last week was highlighted by an exercise mental block, er, taper, so, I was determined not to let this week turn into the same. I came back from WP exhausted and with major head congestion and wheezing and coughing, so Monday was a no brainer for a rest day, and Tuesday required a nap instead of exercise as well.

Today, I WOULD swim, but that 30 minutes was a reasonable goal, and so that's what I did.

2 x 400 yards in 8:00 with 1 minute between and then the rest of the time concentrating on pushing off and pulling through the water.

Working on cutting down on the number of diet sodas I am drinking. From 72-96 oz per day down to 48 oz today. Yesterday was only 32 oz, and the afternoon headache was horrible, especially when I coughed.

Mowing/Yard (Mow #2) 10:00 [1]

Did not let the lure of a nap sidetrack me from mowing after work today. Grass was very tall in spots, and with rain tomorrow and weekend plans out of town, today was the day. And, it looks lovely.

FR = 3.39 miles and 96.9m climb. Climb on watch seems to be under reported...

Ok, bashing through bushes and crawling under little trees wasn't quite as fun as yesterday, and I was struggling a bit on the hills, and my tracks show a bit of circuitous navigation here and there, but I was out in the woods for the second day in a row! I didn't break myself, and, I found them all!

I have bumbled around WP so many times for so much longer, so how can I not be happy with today?!

Orienteering race (WP Middle - Brown) 43:28 [3] *** 2.7 km (16:06 / km) +95m 13:41 / km
shoes: Pink!! Ice Bugs

FR = 2.15 miles with 96.9m climb.

This was so much fun!!!

I felt fit and smart and was just so glad to be out on a course. Tenth on the course, though I gained places since the early starters had separate control descriptions with didn't exactly match up with the course. A change had been made at the last minute to shorten the course...

However, I had some decent splits against good competition, so I'll take the pat on the back I gave myself without any qualifications.

Walking 26:53 [3] 1.19 mi (22:36 / mi) +27m 21:06 / mi
shoes: Pink!! Ice Bugs

A long, difficult walk from the Finish. Happy to see Roger had driven down to the lower parking lot for me. I could have made it back under my own power, but it was nice of him, and it saved my legs a little for later.
3 PM

Orienteering race (WP - Sprint O/Br) 22:42 [3] *** 1.9 km (11:57 / km) +45m 10:41 / km
shoes: Red Fish

FR = 1.58 miles with 48.5m climb

I was the last starter - thank your smoke for coming to see me off. There was a team of two boys starting just ahead of me, and they were advised not to let Miss Valerie beat them. Well, I like nothing more than a challenge. They were very speedy, but I was more accurate, as well an sneaky, so I pulled out the win.

Was concerned that I had lost the race when I stumbled into concertina wire between 6 & 7, but I got out of it pretty easily.

Snuck under the buildings to 9, just after punching with the boys at 8. They got confused there. Messed up 11 by going back almost to the Finish, so plenty of witnesses to that little show. Slowed at the end, but then had enough to get the 4th best split on the Brown course run in. Though, thank goodness I had worn the ankle braces, which I contemplated not doing so...I turned my ankle over running in. Little twinge but not as bad as it could have been.

I love to Sprint! And, while I missed my goal of 10 minutes per K, I really enjoyed myself, and it was part of a very good day.
