Biking 30:00 [1]

Streak alive - usual craziness before relay starting at 12, but with a nudge or two from the results team, I kitted up and took a spin around campus and a bit beyond. Hilly and windy, but so good to get something in before the long ride home.

Finished just as the relay started, and that's when it occurred to me that we hadn't put the start time into the computer. A minor issue, and all went well.

Thanks to a crack download crew which included Alli (seated), Sandy (barely visible), and Amy (standing), as well as Lex (not shown), who now knows more than she ever wanted to. However, I couldn't/wouldn't have done it if I had to share the space with anyone else but Ed.

I like these two sides of Valerie:

Pink hair may be a good look for me!

White shadow. It was hard.

Having Barney there to watch over things was one of the highlight of the weekend.

Though it was a good thing that Alli was part of the package...

after Barney fell asleep on the job.

Misc 30:00 [1]

The plan for today was to work from 630-1030, pool for 30 minutes when it opened at 11, home at 1145, throw rest of stuff including Roger into car, drive to IAD and drop off Roger, and then off to NH. Well, pool now opens at 1130, which I hadn't realized because I have been going later the couple of times since school reopened.

Wrench in the plans...what to do...what to do. Apparently, put it off as long as possible. Only made it as far as Danbry, CT, arriving around 815, and decided I was hungry, and the restaurant next door closed at 10. Had a nice meal, then worked until after 11 dealing with course and start time changes.

Down to the fitness center, where I failed at getting bike to show the elapsed time, and sitting down to cycle (you know what I mean) sort of sucks anyway. Tried another machine, maybe it is an elliptical, and then a treadmill. All felt weird, so still had 15 minutes left. Back to room for 15 minutes of core and stuff, doing anything to make the time go by, including a few rounds of "Head, shoulder, knees, and toes." Stopped short of rationalizing that "I'm a Little Teapot" had an aroebic value.

A very lame effort, but I am counting it, because it was a hard day, and also because the rest have been pretty solid.

Manchester by 930 tomorrow to pick up Amy. I am about 3 hours away... Another long day/weekend ahead.

Walking 37:30 [1]
weight:184lbs

Today was the toughest day this month to get 30 in. In additon to working my real job, sandwiched between back to back events, and getting Roger off to Italy tomorrow, I am also dealing with getting stuff picked out to redo the upstairs bathroom at the end of the month. So, today flew by, and the noontime swim didn't happen, and then I ate a heaving heaping amount of Roger's excellent beef cheese macaroni bake, and then it was dark, and my legs were toast, and well, screw that and get out the door, Valerie!

Still kind of nasty out, and the plan was to just mozy around for a half hour, but then there was a downhill in front of me, and then an uphill, and then a downhill...well, you get, the idea. So, my measly walk turned into an honest effort, and a workout was in the books. One third of the month to go.

Walking 33:00 [1]
weight:185lbs

Took maprunner's suggestion and walked from work. It was the most time economical choice, and I really didn't need anything too strenuous after the last few days. Worked up a sweat in the hot, humid, hazy conditions, but felt good, and was a much needed release after getting the NAOC start times reviewed and posted.
