O Training 47:22 [1] 1.72 mi (27:32 / mi) +60m 24:52 / mi

Put out 9 controls at QOC event. Had to go back out later and reverse 133 and 138, which Alli, an early starter on Yellow, was able to relay back via Boris, Greg, Kathleen, to me, that they were reversed. Oops.

Blame it on about 2 hours of sleep each of the last two nights, and of the worse kind, in 10 minute chunks.

Orienteering race (QOC - Yellow) 40:56 [2] *** 2.24 mi (18:16 / mi) +120m 15:40 / mi

After putting out controls, and then correcting the reversed controls, my right heel was really painful, and I thought I would just hang out for the day instead of going out. However, the Best Ever Results Team (minus Tori) appeared up over the horizon, despite my neglecting to say, yes, please to them, and arrange for shifts.

Amy and I set up, Hannah and Kevin took first shift, following by Alli and Barney, and me, with Amy doing the last bits, as usual. Since Alli was handling the duties so well without me, I got the best job of the day - sitting with Barney and keeping warm.

When I needed to fix something on the results display, Barney was lovingly passed around among the West Point cadets and the Naval Academy midshipmen, all in need of some Barney time. Still smiling about the scene three days later. Sure am glad Barney wasn't able to go to the board retreat this weekend!

Oh, yes, I did the Yellow course. That was all I had in me, after another two hours of broken sleep. It was the correct choice, especially after the slog from 8-9 Route - that was just plain mean. :)

Another good day.

Orienteering race (NJTORC - Brown) 1:27:12 [3] *** 4.05 mi (21:32 / mi) +210m 18:33 / mi

Only about two hours of sleep last night, spread over about seven hours - ugh! Had hoped for more rest, because today was the Area 5 NJROTC Championships, which is always exhausting. However, while it was exhausting, it was also very satisfying. And, I even got to run a course this year while Amy manned the download area. Windy and cold, but beautiful in the woods. Three errors, a couple of which I wish I could blame on the new compass, which I am not really bonding with because of the wiggling needle. However, I think it was all on me today. Regardless, I enjoyed the course, and it wasn't too chaotic while I was gone, or at least not anything that wasn't handled in my absence. :)

Thank you, Amy! As well as all of the cadets and parents from Governor Thomas Johnson High School NJROTC, who not only was the host school, they also won the Overall Team Trophy.

A couple of setup errors to remember not to do again - wrong date in OE2010, so results display software was not happy.
Wrong external video driver on the results display computer. Had switched it over to the QOC monitor drivers after NAOC thinking I was done using the TVs for many months. This resulted in about an hour of angst before Richard Sanchez from Patuxent stepped in and calmly sorted the issue out. Thank you, Richard!

Misc 15:00 [1]
weight:190lbs

I wanted to bike today, but with 20 mph wind gusts, that wasn't happening. Lots to do to get set up for NJROTC Area 5 Championships tomorrow, and the QOC event on Sunday, and was really pressed for time as well. So, perhaps a bit of a stretch, but I am counting some of the loading the van as my exercise for today. And, considering how heavy I was breathing, I knew I was working hard. Anyone who has helped me load or unload the van at an event would ageee. Right? ;-)

Running/Walking 1:00:41 [1] 4.72 mi (12:51 / mi) +15m 12:44 / mi

Ran and walked the outbound, then walked most of the return trip with some light pole sprint intervals near the end. A sticky 70 degrees out.

Finished the month off on a good note. Will post a plan for December tomorrow.

Swimming 41:00 [1] 1.14 mi (35:57 / mi)
weight:189lbs

4x500 with a 30-60 seconds break in between. Set out just to do 30 minutes, but when the 3rd one felt so effortless, and was also just as fast as the 2nd, I added a 4th for a cool down.

Biking 1:07:00 [1] 12.64 mi (5:18 / mi) +21m 5:16 / mi
weight:191lbs

About 45 with the wind chill, which was brutal coming back, especially by the airport. Shorts again, which were fine, and two long sleeve tops, which were a little too warm, except when they weren't.

Went through Crystal City, both directions, since I thought it was better than having to do the switchback to get onto the trail. Need to not do that. Not fun, and coming back, I rode a long block on the sidewalk since the signs said no bikes on the road.

Getting dark at the end. And a little chilly, which is when the shirts were just right. :)
