Biking 1:01:00 [1] 12.04 mi (5:04 / mi) +206m 4:49 / mi
ahr:140 max:190 weight:191lbs

Still a bit of a stuffy head, but it wasn't sufficient enough to justify another rest day. Swimming or biking? Lunch or no lunch? Indoors on a beautiful 60+ degree winter day? No way! Decided on lunch and bike after work.

I usually take the trail under Columbia Pike to skip the light. But, the alternate has some very little steep hills which I find hard to get up so early in the ride, especially since my right knee is a little unstable at present. So, I crossed at the light, just missing it and having to wait forever to cross, or so it seemed.

Coming back, I was just missing it again, but the other day, there was like 10 extra seconds on the wait cycle, and I figured that would happen again. Just as I went to cross, the light turned green, so I put on my brakes, un clipped one side and fell over to the other - about fifteen cars witness this. Ugh! The car closest to me, the one not moving until it was clear what I was doing, looked at me with concern, and I gave a big sheepish grin, and waved him on. Then a guy waiting on the corner for the evening sandwich handout came over and picked my bike up and held it for me while I gathered myself.

Bloody knee, and some stabbing pain into my right butt, but otherwise bike and body were in one piece. Was able to finish the ride, with just my pride slightly in tatters.

I hate when I make poor decisions while biking. I am usually super overly cautious. I guess this .1% of the other me is a reminder to continue being as careful as I usually am.

Ah, well, it was still a nice ride on a beautiful afternoon, and I live to tell my tale. :)

weight:191lbs (rest day)

A much needed rest day. Have a small head cold, and feeling a little worn out, so best to not overdo. Thought about clearing my head at the pool but decided using the neti pot was a smarter decision.

Orienteering race (Brown) 50:39 [3] *** 3.72 km (13:36 / km) +95m 12:04 / km
ahr:135 max:165 weight:193lbs

FR = 2.83 miles with 99 m climb

Worked on using compass to keep straight through the scruffy woods. Very happy and pleased with effort except for the start of the leg from 7-8 when I drifted left.

Route

Another gloomy day, where the sun never came out, and there was a light mist in the air, until about 2:45, when it started raining. Most were back by then, and I was packed up and home by 4 PM, where I enjoyed an impromptu visit with Lailah and her dad.

Orienteering race (White) 18:16 [3] ** 2.0 km (9:08 / km) +30m 8:30 / km
ahr:141 max:157

FR = 1.36 miles with 52 m climb

Took about a 12 minute break, and then ran around the White course, because I could. Inara G. is the true winner on White, as were Barney, Alli, and Boris.

Biking 1:46:32 [1] 20.03 mi (5:19 / mi) +276m 5:06 / mi
ahr:165 max:194 weight:194lbs

Gloomy morning with heavy fog, enough to mist up my glasses, but the perfect time and almost perfect temperature (~47 F) for a ride. Toes and thumbs did get chilly about halfway through when the moisture soaked through, but it wasn't too bad.

Have added Exteme-O in rough format. Lots of pictures and some text...may add more text later.

Some random thoughts from the weekend

GAOC volunteers– still the best! They know how to do things right, year in and year out. Did not hear nary a complaint all weekend.

Many thanks to Mike Minium for taking so many photos and getting them posted so quickly. I used a bunch of them in my Extreme-O report.

Kia Soul – nice car to drive, with good sight lines. Kept me safe until about 2 minutes from the rental return, when I almost clobbered someone changing lanes.

Great hotel – quiet, convenient. Though, what’s with the rice on the breakfast buffet? Kia and Hyundai influence? Wished it was oatmeal or grits instead.

Waffle House!! For a post Extreme-O feast. I ate ALL but the toast…you probably know what was in the To-Go cup.

Swimming 1:00:00 [1]

An hour of pool running, freestyle, treading water, underwater swimming, etc. Lap lanes crowded, so I hung in the tank instead.

A weird feeling day.

11 AM: Added maps and a little more detail for first three races.
Noon: How many photos in a race report, for a race which lasted under three hours, is too many? Stay tuned for the answer.
