I made the noon mass start, though a bit rushed after the usual late arriving crowd needing to be processed through epunching.

Seventy people in the mass start. Nice number. Bumbled through the first window. Followed others to B after missing D. Punch B, thinking I was at D, so navigating from there to find C, which was fruitless since I wasn't at D to begin with. Finally found B again, realized what I did, reset, and found the next two before screwing up A. Whew, finally found it and leave the first window.

Punched 8, unlike a number of others, and then decided to do two more windows. My orienteering didn't improve much, but I was outside on a beautiful day, and while I went through more thorns than I can count, I enjoyed myself (in that sort of sick "kick me" way).

Then to the tank and did 4x90 seconds of scissor kick treading as fast and hard as I could. Was puffing hard at the end of each one. About 30-45 seconds rest in between. Will try to do these every swim and build up the time, sort of like doing planks.

Note

Signed up for horseback riding lessons starting next Tuesday. Am doing a two hour tour ride while in New Zealand, and I want to feel like I know what I am doing and not be intimidated. Bought shoes and a helmet today at Dover Saddlery. What a magnificent store. So many cool things to look at.

Home by 4:15 and out the door by 4:25. Was only going to ride if it was not raining, and, as Roger observed when I got home, it wasn't raining. Just about 50 and overcast. Another one of those days when I didn't want to, but I am so glad I did.

I made poor decisions yesterday...despite eating a cup of oatmeal and raisins for breakfast, my stomach felt hollow before lunchtime. And, this was after carrots and almonds mid-morning. So, I went home and pigged out, including three ice cream bars, then I, blew off the pool, and crashed for a lunchtime nap. All of these things made me feel bad, physically and mentally, and I couldn't fall to sleep last night to top it off.

Had a hard time getting up this morning, go figure, eh? Damn it, Valerie, you can't let your sound efforts this month take a two day end of month slide. Where's your get up and go?!

I didn't really feel like swimming, and cycling was out because of the wind gusts, because, well, I hate windy [chilly] cycling... Pool it was, listening to my tunes and treading water quite enthusiastically at times, alternating scissor kicks and egg beater, and put lots of effort into the arms too. It sounds dull, but I quite enjoyed it for a change.
