Note
(rest day)

Light Peppering, much to her dismay, but a recovery day needed, for sure.

Orienteering race (Yellow) 50:43 [2] *** 2.32 mi (21:52 / mi) +41m 20:43 / mi
ahr:108 max:186 weight:193lbs

Pepper's first orienteering course. Pretty sure that if every second recording had been on, the garmin would have shown us going even further. We were here, there, everywhere, pooping, peeing, rolling in the fields, drinking from the puddles, running circles around me. Error from 2-3 was my own...the rest were because we were peppering big time. What a blast!!

Orienteering (White) 25:26 [1] *** 1.36 mi (18:42 / mi) +3m 18:34 / mi
ahr:114 max:131

After a bit of a break, while waiting for things to wind down, we went out on the White. Lots more rolling and rolling, and more of the same. Right heel was quite painful at the end, but at least Pepper was worn out...or not...five minutes later, she wanted me to take her to the woods. I let her go to the edge, but then I carried her back.

A tiring day. Thank goodness for the help of good friends, and new friends, who I handed off the leash to for short periods here and there.

Peppering 20:00 [1] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Two outings, both up and down the hill, with a little fox sniffing thrown in for good measure.

Peppering 25:00 [1] 2.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
weight:192lbs

Two sessions in the morning and at lunchtime, both up and down the hill. I have to say that this keeps getting easier every time.

For the evening sessions, I debated between peppering the woods or the dog park, and I decided on the dog park. She really liked it the first two times, but was indifferent/less happy the third time, so I decided to try again. Plus, I am a little worn out, so I thought it would be easier for me.

Pepper got pushed back at right inside the gate, and she didn't get find any buddies to romp around with, so she was pretty unhappy the rest of the time. Would have been better off fox hunting.

She also insisted on riding in my lap today, and usually that isn't an issue. Will probably have to work on lots of old and new behaviors when I get back from NZ, so I am not going to obsess on it in the next week.

Peppering 10:00 [1] 0.78 mi (12:49 / mi) +45m 10:52 / mi
ahr:81 max:119

Actual = 34:22

Took a longer lunch so that I could go peppering before I went to the pool.

Tried the retractable leash for woods time, and this seemed to have worked really well. It gave me a change to catch up while Pepper stopped to sniff. She only double wrapped us around a tree once. I think I may have possibly been in more control today. Maybe.

Saw the fox...ho hum.

Trail Run 15:00 [1] 0.77 mi (19:29 / mi) +79m 14:47 / mi
ahr:94 max:141

Got a little complacent with the leash this morning because I thought we were in the non-fox zone. However, eagle eyes Pepper spied the fox on the hill to the left, and before I knew it she had pulled the leash out of my limp hand, and was off! And, by off, I mean down and up a steep gully full of green thorny stuff - too steep for the deer to eat.

So, I dropped down through clearer woods, followed the barking, and I see the fox come back across towards the other side of the park, then three deer (crap, not deer too!), and then Pepper. I climb back to the top, and since the back gate wasn't open, I go to the front so I can get into the back yard and open the gate in case she comes back like on Saturday.

And, there on my stoop is my good neighbor Anne, and her children, Molly and Brendan, and Pepper, still with the leash attached. She had come up to them as they were heading to the nearby school.
