Mtn Biking 1:00:00 [3]

Great ride prior to leaving camping in Yoho. Am still pretty pooped but was fun to get out.

Hiking 1:00:00 [3] 5.0 km (12:00 / km)

Nice easy hike in to camp at Laughing Falls in Yoho with Mike, VJ, Pete, and Caroline, and theirs kids. Took Logan for his first trip and he did great. Although was a little tough keeping him on leash but i think he was just excited to be with us.

Triathlon 13:07:23 [3] 140.2 mi (5:37 / mi)

IRONMAN Canada. Big day with lots of prep. Year long commitment came down to this day. Slept well overnight after taking Gravol to help me sleep. The weather forecast was not great and required taking a rain jacket on the bike. Luckily I missed out on a major downpour. Not every athlete was this fortunate. It turned out to be a very comfortable racing temperature.

The swim start was very exciting. The national anthem was played. And them off went the horn and the race started. I started further left to stay out of the mass congestion. Initially I didn't get hit but eventually as i got close to the first major turn at the houseboat things got ugly. I got punched in the eye and in the ribs. I kept having to stop and readjust my goggles 'cause one was suctioned to my eye after being hit. I thought maybe i had lost my contact lense but luckily i hadn't. I got out of the water in 1:08:36 and was thrilled. I was so emotional in the tent b/c i swam better than i had predicted.

Off on the bike i was feeling pretty good. Had a major tailwind down to Osoyoos. I got passed by a ton of people but flats aren't my strength. But i was still going 35 km per hour for a good portion. I loved my new wheels! The climb up Richter went smoothly with lots of local Revy support including Travis and Rory in drag get up. They ran with me for a while. Survived the rollers. The out and back on Cawston was a nice change of pace. But had to pee so bad i ended up wasting 10 mins standing in line at a portapotty. I should have just peed in the bush but was afraid i'd get disqualified. In total i think i spend 15 mins waiting to pee in line at the stations. I stopped twice on the bike. Hit a horried head wind that slowed me considerably on the way back on Cawston and up to yellow lake. I was in my small chain ring and my legs were absolutely on fire. But i recovered enough by the time i got to Yellow Lake. Saw Bart on my last climb up to Yellow Lake. It was like the tour, people on both sides on the road screaming and yelling. Kind of freaked me out actually. Enjoyed a great fast ride into the town. Total bike time = 6:53:27. Little slower than hoped but 15 mins in the bathroom and a crazy headwind made things slower.

Thought there was no way i'd be able to run. But took it easy. Did a negative split. Walked all aid stations. And later on all the uphills hills. Probably could have finished stronger with less walking in the end but just couldn't bring myself to do it. I told myself i was just trying to enjoy the day. At 5 km in my Left foot was in agony. I stopped and took off my shoe to massage it. BIG MISTAKE. Ended up with the worst cramp of my life. Thought i'd never run again. But managed to get going and then was afraid to stop for some time. Stupidly i forgot my salt tabs but started drinking chicken noodle soup to help me recover. Total run time: 4:51:52. Not too shappy for having bike and swam previously. Had a strong finish into the finish line crying and smilling all at once. The crowds carried me in the last 2 km for sure. So many people chanting my name. Some i knew but most i didn't.

Overall an amazing day. The volunteers really make this race and they are absolutely amazing. From wetsuit stripping to literally getting you dressed in the change tent to slathering you with sunscreen. You name it they did it.

Today am feeling the worst possible stiffness i can imagine. I have two huge blisters on both pinkies. Pooped 15 times throughout the night and was barely able to sleep. Have had a two hour nap and am now off to the awards banquet.

Thanks everyone for the great support for this amazing journey.
