Orienteering Competion race 1:13:32 intensity: (5:40 @1) + (33:12 @2) + (27:49 @3) + (5:25 @4) + (1:26 @5) **** 6.9 km (10:39 / km) +80m 10:04 / km

BRL Lang Oberau
LL 4.9km, 110hm
Very ugly forest with bad runability. No fun at all to run there. And I wasn't always very good with the map reading today, had some difficulties sometimes. Maybe not concentrated enough? Also had a hard time getting used to running on a 1:15000 map again - it was a while since I last got this scale...
All in all a not to got race, orienteering was sometimes good and sometimes plain silly, the running was OK in the end, but in the first half of the race I was just struggling around, mostly walking.

Comments:
To 1: What an ugly start. Running through really rough forest and thorns trying to keep the right direction and in the end see and read the vegetation and estimate the distance. Found the control really good, even if I wasn't completely sure about the vegetation.
to 2 and 3: spiked both controls, but very slow walking/struggling through the forest.
to 4: Already knew that the runability in the forest was really bad, but there was no real alternative to running as straight as possible, so I had to fight my way through and hated every meter of it. Even the part on the path was not good to run. Made a small mistake when crossing the first bigger path cause I didn't know on which side to expect the path crossing and went to the wrong side first (30s). Then a big one at the end: wanted to run along the stream until the last path crosses my way, but didn't see the path and went far too far; realized it somewhere near the dark green patches and made my way back slowly, always looking for the light green on the other side of the stream to not miss the path again. Found the control then, but slowly. Regarding my quickroute-track I lost 4:30 there.
to 5: Already knew that the runability in the forest was bad, but just didn't realize the two routes right or left on the paths. In the end I think going straight north until hitting the bigger path and then following the paths maybe would have been the fastest possibility, because especially the first thicket was awful to cross, even on the forest aisles (lots of brake lying there). Compared to other runners who normally have my running speed I lost at least 3 min. there.
to 6: Finally made the right route choice. But at the end my fine orienteering was very bad. Run along the stream, looking for the reentrant and didn't realize that there was not just one, but two separate ones, the second starting a little bit higher up than the first. Found a small reentrant, looked up on it but didn't see a control. Ran farther until I hit the flatter area, relocated and then got back and found the control. 2 more minutes lost.
to 7: At least found my orienteering sense again and spiked the control. But took my time at the fine orienteering, so the split time was OK, but not really fast.
to 8: A little insecurity near the control, was a bit to far down first, but no big loss. Maybe 30s.
to 9: A bit to far right, but immediately realized it. Maybe could have been 15s faster.
to 10: Everything perfect.
Way to much mistakes in the middle part.

To Robert after coming home late from the competition weekend. Very slow, but was good to move the stiff and tired legs a bit...

Started together with someone from Heat A and we recognized before the start that we have the same first control. So we raced each other a bit on the long way to the first control and I got a really good, fast start. Maybe a bit too fast? Because after the second control I made some silly mistakes and felt really tired and unable to push, even needed some walking parts. The running got a little bit better again in the end after two controls in the forest where I recover a bit. In the beginning and in the end running speed was OK, in the middle I was to slow. Should be careful not to start too fast next time...

Comments:
To 1: Just perfect, maybe a little bit too fast?
to 2: Perfect and fast enough again
to 3: Didn't realize that there's a thicket on the direct route along the fence (also the grass on the meadow was very high) and it would be better to take the path. Got around the thicket to the path when I saw it, but lost a bit there. Also wasn't able to really run until shortly after I reached the path. Ca. 30s lost.
to 4: Completely confused. Wanted to go straight to the path, climbed the hill and then realized that the fence is still unpasable and I've to take the same crossing than on my way in. So back down the hill :( Time lost: at least the 45s it took me to climb the hill, maybe even more. Also two maybe unecessary 30s walking breaks (yes, I felt really tired on this part).
to 5: Orienteering was perfect, but had to wald 30s again at the end of this leg.
to 6: Orienteering OK, but moved slow
to 7: Silly me. Didn't see the path east of the embankment and went all the way through the not so runable forest. Lost 20-30s there again.
to 8 and 9: Orienteering and running where perfectly fine again.
In the end it was place 18 out of 20 and a place in the B-Final. But there really was no chance for the A-Final for me, no matter how good the race would have been. Even the best possible run would have been more than 90s to slow to qualify...

German Champs Sprint, B-Final
LL 1.9km, 80Hm
Really fun course through the old city center of Meissen. Running was OK on the flat parts, but lost a lot of time on the stairs and uphills. Orienteering was really good, felt in control almost all the time and had a good race.
Map:
http://bilder.m-ha.de/doma/index.php?user=Meike
Comments:
To 1: Was able to see the route fast and execute it perfect. Very good start :) 3. best split time there...
to 2 and 3: Fast and controlled orienteering and running again. Good.
to 4: Small 5s hesitation to find the stairs right of the church. Otherwise orienteering was good, but the uphill walking was painfully slow. Lost about a minute due to my slow uphills.
to 5: Perfect again.
to 6: I'm not sure if a route on the right around the castle wouldn't have been better. It would have been longer, but saved half the climb. On the other hand, on my route I saw my 8. control already and realized that it was under the street, not on it - that saved me from a potential big mistake later.
to 7: Perfect again.
to 8: First plan was going more left, until I realized that on this route I'd have to go down the whole hill and up again. Then saw the stairs into the inside of the castle and took this route. All fast and fine then - managed to gain some time there.
to 9: Everything went fine, but my split was still one of the slowest there. Don't know why, maybe because I was so slow (nearly 1 min.) on the stairs?
to 10, 11, 12: Rest of the course was easy and went fine and fast again.

Control hanging for a park-O in the Uni-Ol-Training. Tried to do it as some kind of intervalls, go fast between the controls and use the control hanging time as regeneration. Between some of the controls, my running speed was really good.

Note
(injured)

Seems like I've hurt some muscle in my left hamstring/adductor. During running everything was OK, but when we stand around the barbecue afterwards it starts to hurt more and more...
